Anyone run an M4 into a rebel 30? How did that go?

Wondering if anyone has run an M4 preamp into Rebel 30 effects loop in. How did it sound? How does it compare to other power sections you have run?

I'm running my M4 into a Rebel 20 with great results. I think the power sections of the Rebel 20 and 30 are very similar if not identical. One thing you should know is that the Rebel master volume comes before the effects loop return which means that you'll need some other way of controlling your overall volume given that you won't be going through the Rebel pre-amp section. If you plug your M4 straight into the return, you can use the M4 output to adjust the overall volume, but its very difficult to control... i.e. a very minor change in the M4 output results in a HUGE change in the overall volume. I'm using a G-System (hooked up using the 4 cable method), and the G-Sys output level works great for this purpose. I keep my M4 output volume set to ensure that I don't overload the G-Sys, then use the output level of the G-Sys to adjust overall volume. The Rebel's variable watts and tub mix controls work great with the M4. I haven't played the M4 through any other power sections, so I can't provide a comparison, but I can sat that overall this is the best sounding rig I've ever played through. It even sounds amazing at bedroom levels, much better than the Rebel 20 by itself does.

Kewl. Are you using the rebel cab? I'm interested in the 30 because of the silent record option. Great to hear someone is doing this with good success! Have you ever tried running through the preamp section?

Anyone else try other power sections with the M4?

Yea, I noticed the same thing about the volume. I ran my MOD50 preamp section out into my Rebel 30 head and several other preamps too. Sounds good but no way to control the volume on the Rebel.

Is this the same on the Tweaker?

I originally thought that I'd eventually get a different power amp, but this is sounding so good that I haven't had the motivation to change.

I'm using a custom-built oversized 1x12. My M4 sits on the cab, so I wanted something a bit bigger than the rebel cab, plus the added volume provides a nice big sound. The cab also has a 3-piece back panel similar to the eggie 2x12s for closed or open back options. It has scumback M75 speaker which I cannot recommend enough. I was using an old marshall 1922 with G12T-75s before and that just sounded small and harsh in comparison. I find that I run my EQs with more treble now because I'm no longer trying the fight the harshness of the G12T-75s. I had almost sold my SL2x because I just couldn't tame that harshness. Thank god I didn't, because I love that module now with the scumback.

I've also worked out a decent solution for silent record but it requires more gear. I go out from the Rebel 20 head to a Behringer DI box with speaker simulator, then out to a THD Hot Plate set to "load". From the Behringer I can go out to the recording gear. It works OK, but I prefer the sound of the scumback to the speaker simulator. I've heard good things about the rebel 30 silent record.

Do you mean plugging the M4 out directly into the Rebel input? I haven't tried it. Personally I wouldn't expect that to sound very good because the Rebel pre-amp will further color the sound from the M4.

Yes, that's what I had meant. I think you're right

I have run my M4 into the fx return of my rebel 20 and it sounded pretty good. It was quite a bit brighter than running into my vht 2502 and harder to control volume but it worked well and wasnt noisy or anything.

As far as recording goes...i have recorded alot of stuff going straight out of the m4 and then using speaker sim (impulse) software. you can check out voxengo boogex or sir 2 are a couple of good impulse software you can use and there are many others.
