Is it worth the money? Can you describe the change in tone? What position would it work best in? Thanks in advance.

--> V1.

darker & more gain than today's crap tubes.

All preamp tubes in my VH-4 are RFT tubes (V7 special phase inverter tube, I think type 12AT7). I bought them cheap for around 8 EUR apiece some years ago. I like the sound of my VH-4 very much, it's definitely darker sounding with the RFTs than with the JJs - but I use a Tele most of the time so a little darkness is just right to tame this beast :-)

So Olaf, do you think, it's overkill/wastage to use RFTs from V1-V7?

If you like it . . . V1, V2 and V3 are making the sound, so you really don't need to use them in loop/PI positions.

Thank you Olaf! I guess I'll change V4-V7 then and use the RFTs as spare tubes for V1-V3.

I use one in the V1 of my Einstein. It's warmer and has more bass than the Sovtek it came with.

I'd only use an RFT if you want to tame some of the highs, or if you need a little more gain.

LOL wut? More gain from a Diezel?

Just an update.....I bought a RFT and put it in V1 and it is :rock: . It has a little more gain vs the chinese but it's much less compressed and sounds thicker and wilder :lol: :LOL: on channel 3 and 4. I'm REALLY digging it.
