Anyone try a 12AT7 in V2 on Einstein?

I find that channel 2 is so... compressed, even at lower gain settings. Great for endless riffage by itself, but struggles to cut though the mix in the whole band situation. If it was a bit more open/cutting, I'd probably use it more. I'm just wondering what how putting a 12AT7 would effect the sound? Just be less gain, or would some of the compression go away too?

:D Brian

ive got one in V2 - mullard 12at7 .
less gain for sure -not sure about the compression though ( i dont actually think that channel 2 is that compressed - certainly not compared to channel 1 anyway ) .
nice tone too .
try one .

I haven't experimented much w/ tubes yet. I just use Mode 3 for riffage and Ch 2 for those liquid smooth leads. I don't think Ch 2 was really made for rhythm, hence why it is so compressed I guess?

Hope that helps!

I have an Einstein combo inwhich I placed 2 NOS Mullard 12AT7's...one in V-1 and one in V-2.
The amp has less overdrive, but not so little as to be ineffective at all. There is so much distortion available that lowering it a bit, just allowed me to turn the amp up higher and get more out of it.
It roars with a good clean sustaining tone in ch. one, mode II and ch. 2 hardly needs any gain at all to sound very angry.
