I'm looking into the H&K Coreblades. It seems like a great solution with an all tube circuit, multi-effects, MIDI, etc all built in. All the clips I have heard of it though are a bit lackluster; they are very brittle and shrill. Has anyone played one in person? Any thoughts poistive or negative on the amp would be helpful. Thanks guys!

I've never played one, but doesn't Alex Lifeson use them live? Maybe just for cleans?

I'm pretty sure Lifeson just uses his signature Tri-Amp. I could be wrong though...

So no new info on this if anyone by now has experience with them ... All in one amp is pretty badass

Lifeson is now using the Lerxst Omega built for him by Mojotone.

How different is the Coreblade from the Switchblade? I think the Switchblade preceded the Coreblade; maybe the Coreblade has more gain? I've had an interest in both but they aren't talked about much on the boards

The Coreblade has more gain and is more of a full on "metal" amp, although my Switchblade has a ridiculous amount of gain on tap. Great bang for the buck, but not much love for H&K around here. Try to find one and give it a spin - if it floats your boat, buy used and save a ton of money...

I ordered the H&K Switchblade TSC to gig and tour with. I thought it was an awesome idea...the amp taking care of the tubes for you. However, the amp is incredibly shrill and treble-y. My other guitarist is still using a standard Switchblade 100.
The Coreblade, if memory serves me correctly, negates the "Lead" stage, and replaces it with "Ultra II." (Clean, Crunch, Lead, Ultra on the Switchblade; Clean, Crunch, Ultra I, Ultra II on the Coreblade)
In my opinion, the best way to go about reaching high gain or just a crunch was in the Lead section.

Never used one, but I like Tony Mac's tones on his recent effort and he is/was using them.

I am loathe to buy used amps, especially a hybrid, unless I know the seller... sadly I don't know anyone with one! :'(

Exactly my suspicion... Another great attempt but somehow fails. A head is the core tone of everything. What is it. Shrill fizzy thin somehow sounds sort of processed unlike say the great amps ?

it does sound slightly processed, but not as much as i thought it would, not in a solid state way though..more like a mark v does with the effects loop always engaged, but not quite.

not pure.

it cuts through a mix well though. he loves it. says he gets tone complements all the time. best thing to do is find one, and play it. it felt good playing it, responded well....but, i didnt love it. im in a different tonal place though. it seemed to be voiced pretty flat, and not a lot of bass punch and depth, if thats what you mean.

but, for what it does, it's worth grabbing one used for say 800 or so. he bought his new...i think for 2k....sheesh!

The same goes for pretty much any Eastern amps/rack gear. Brunetti, Masotti, Hughes & Kettner, and Koch just to name a few. They all make EXCELLENT quality amps (quality and tone), but they are not "natural" to here so are just not as popular.

The only brand really popular from Europe is Engl. The main reason being that they hit the metal market hard with a fairly unique character and have a huge artist base.

Everytime I saw a band live that used engle they were lost in mix.
