I got to crank one at NAMM and it was very VHT!!!I wouldn't trade my Mod for one but it was pretty cool.richedie":17ny06no said:I know this is the Eggie forum but I used to have a VHT and have to admit the Sig X tempted me for a bit......but honestly the modular thing is way too cool...plus the ability to bias your own amp, well - what can I say.
I had the same feeling and me and a buddy played all the VHTs in the booth, great sounding amps but I like the Mods better!!RockStarNick":1eblow7y said:I tried one. Wasn't as "rich" sounding as the Egnaters, for sure.
It's a versatile amp, but I agree with Jeff: Stiff.
A hundred flavors of stiff and dry.

Have you ever owned a GP-3?
It's a strange/cool preamp. Pretty much like a stereo UL with a 2150 or 2902.

Based on comments on tone Ive read from Rich over the past couple of years about what he likes about Bogner and Egnater tones, I really dont think VHT (or now Fryette actually) will give him anything he wants. Ive always been under the impression that Rich likes really thick, complex, juicy mids and some definite grind and sag. I didnt get any of that when I played a Sig-X. Its a cool sounding amp. But that description is not at all what I think of. Its about as far away from a Bogner XTC as it gets for a high gainer.

I totally agree, that is why I did not like my VHT UL.
Funny though, even though I like the juicy mids, saggy-ness of these amps - I am liking the TS5881s!
