Anyone try the VHT Sig X?

I know this is the Eggie forum but I used to have a VHT and have to admit the Sig X tempted me for a bit......but honestly the modular thing is way too cool...plus the ability to bias your own amp, well - what can I say. :D

I got to crank one at NAMM and it was very VHT!!!I wouldn't trade my Mod for one but it was pretty cool.

I have one. It is a great amp. Stiff is all I can say. I really liked it with a Les Paul. Still have it and play it from time to time.!

I tried one. Wasn't as "rich" sounding as the Egnaters, for sure.

It's a versatile amp, but I agree with Jeff: Stiff.

A hundred flavors of stiff and dry.

 I had the same feeling and me and a buddy played all the VHTs in the booth, great sounding amps but I like the Mods better!!

Yep, great stuff and the Sig X sounds flexible enough that it might tempt an Eggie user because it is very adjustable. My Pit Bull was also stiff and it even had a tube rectifier.

Very stiff and very dry. Completely agree with everyone else. Its definitely not the amp for you Rich if you like Bogner and Egnater tones.

Me too bro!!! I love the tones that have come out of my VHT 2502, 2902, and 2150 power amps!!! :)

Have you ever owned a GP-3?

It's a strange/cool preamp. Pretty much like a stereo UL with a 2150 or 2902.

As a matter of fact I did. It is a weird but cool preamp. I had one for 2-3 weeks. Ultimately I liked my Voodoo Amps modded JMP-1 better, and used it more. I couldn't afford at the time to keep both at the time. I did like it for certain sounds though. I should try another one out sometime, now that I'm not in college, have a real job, and make more $ :).

I seem to like just about everything for what it is, in it's own way. Silly is it not ?

I'm the same way. For my needs at that time the GP-3 wasn't it. Really cool preamp though...very different for sure!

Someone's crap is someone else's gold! hence the reason for the modular system :)

I dont think I really explained what I meant. Based on comments on tone Ive read from Rich over the past couple of years about what he likes about Bogner and Egnater tones, I really dont think VHT (or now Fryette actually) will give him anything he wants. Ive always been under the impression that Rich likes really thick, complex, juicy mids and some definite grind and sag. I didnt get any of that when I played a Sig-X. Its a cool sounding amp. But that description is not at all what I think of. Its about as far away from a Bogner XTC as it gets for a high gainer.

I agree with you here Matt. Based on my discussions w/ Rich, I agree with what you said for sure.

I totally agree, that is why I did not like my VHT UL.

Funny though, even though I like the juicy mids, saggy-ness of these amps - I am liking the TS5881s!

Thats becasue if you crank it up a bit and bias at 34 you will get some nice mids and sag!!!
