Put a JJ ECC83 in V1 and V2. Borrowing a couple of my friends and I got to tell you, AWESOME. The low end opens up, gets more punch, and it gets more harmonic spread. Great combo in a VH4.

I wasn't even trying to get a better sound, just lower noise because I had a pre go bad, nice side effect.

I can't stand the JJ ECC83. Every time I've tried it in v1 of any amp I owned I hurried to get it the hell out of there. It's a horrible sounding tube to me.

Sorry to screw up your thread :D

I use Tung Sol 12AX7's exclusively in V1 of all my amps. Good gain across all channels and very microphonic.

Well, yeah, one doesn't sound so great did you try two in there? With one in v1 and 2 I swear its good. You like all of my other ideas of good tone horizon's, bkp's, JJ's at 70 mA...come on   . All good though, we aren't all gunna float the same boat.

You ditched the Hebert for a VH4 :gethim: How can we float the same boat after that? :D

yeah, that's because the VH4 owns the Herbert, didn't you know that?

Who is this guy?! :D

I had JJ ECC83 in V1 and V2 in my Herbert and did not like the sound at all - missed the bite I like from 12AX7A-C highgrades.
But the VH4 has much more bite, maybe for this amp they work better ;)

I'm on board with the Tung Sol 12AX7 across the board for preamp loading in my VH4's and my VH4S's. Awesome tubes, low noise. Nuff said.

I dunna, I HATED the Tung Sol's in Diezel's. In Boogies they were great though, amazing actually. Either all Chinese or two JJ's and the rest Chinese for me, as far as Diezel's. :dunno:

Same here. :dunno: Tung Sols were lacking definition for me. The notes rang out beautifully, but not enough definition on the attack. I went to Chinese 12AX7s for the bite.
