With an SS preamp?
I’m curious if anyones got “routing order” ideas.

Im SURE I’m gonna get “crickets and silence’ here on this one,:LOL: but figured I’d ask….

I use a pair of H9’s along with other time based effects in several different routes (through a patch bay). One configuration I use a lot and really like is:
Gtr -> pedals (OD, EQ) -> KSR Ceres pedal (basically a solid state preamp) -> CabM+ -> H9’s ( and other time based effects) -> Studio Monitors
So no amp at all, the CabM+ has power amp sim and cab IR’s. Sounds amazing.

I have a bunch of H9s (4 total) on multiple bass and 6 string rigs, including 2 feeding a bass SS head (GK 700RB-II). Assuming you are running mono & not stereo, you can use the H9's 2nd set of inputs & outputs to do a pre/post, placing effects before and after your preamp in individual presets. Goto the H9 Control app, Select Pedal / General Settings / Routing and change from Normal to Pre/Post. On individual presets you can then select Pre/Post routing under "More".

Great way to experiment is making 2 identical presets, one Pre & one post, toggle back & forth to compare. You will likely need to tweak output levels of the effects to get them balanced pre & post.

They became scarcer & more expensive since Eventide shifted to only sell Max versions, but if you like the effects, I'd suggest looking for a used H9 Core, which will become a Max when registered on the same Eventide account, lets you have 2 effects at once.

Wow, ok, maybe I’ll mess with the order routing, see if that improves the tones, as well I’m thinking about changing output levels, feels like guitar-h9-preamp has the h9 overcoming my internal hush in the Pre, and breaking past the gate..
Also, been thinking about a 2nd unit, that “2 max’s for the price of a core” seems worth a few xtra bucks…. THANKS guys!

H9 algorithms have deeper parameters than many effects, I've found that I needed to invest time tweaking them along with the global settings of the H9 to dial in good tone for a specific guitar/amp, particularly when combining with other pedals. The H9 control app is essential to getting the most out of it, making changes by menu diving on the unit's interface will drive you crazy. Good luck -

I have a few..I wish the h9 would've had the layout of the factor pedals..sooooo much easier to dial in. I have a pitchfactor and gravitate to it more than my h9s.And I swear the same pitchfactor preset on the h9 sounds better on the factor pedal....this has been a long ongoing discussion on boards for yrs tho..
I have had troubles linking up the h9 to my phone or notebook, reception for updates is horrible where I live, been in contact with eventide many times over it.
Had the app die out at a gig once, lost control of the h9 at another show once...
...I love the eventide stuff..all the way to the h8000..just wish they'd put an h9 in a factor box.

Well, these show up used occasionally on Reverb, probably the closest you're ever going to get:

Stinks your connection is so bad - Other than infrequent flakiness with initial Bluetooth pairing on powerup (solved by reboot), I've never had an issue with one of my H9s losing a BT connection to the app from an Android phone or an older Galaxy S2 tablet, including multiple marathon all day rehearsals where I left everything powered on for 12+ hours. The adjustments I make on the app live are minimal though.

this has been my biggest gripe. interface sucks as does navigation. it's a fantastic sounding pedal but dammit man....put it in a usable form factor.

That’s why I ultimately ended up getting rid of my h9. Great sounding pedal, but too much of a hassle to tweak.

Aside from the first day I owned one, haven't even tried to deal with the onboard menus, only the app. I used mine mostly for reverb, delay, chorus, and octave/pitch shift algorithms - getting the tweaks all done via Android app, and saved to presets that I recall via MIDI from a HX Effects. playing live I haven't needed to dig into the menus (but keep tablet ready just in case).

I used a Gecko One Control to access presets with mine. I actually went to a hx effects after getting rid of the h9 because it was a better fit for my needs.

I agree with every post here.Love all the factor algorithms crammed into one box,but why not put all that into thier regular size box( even if was a 1/2" bigger each way) it'd still be worth it...I did see advertisements for that h9 even midi controller on some site before iirc.....I thought we'd eventually see a nice updated all in one,all effects ever made in one box/ board by tc electronic too,but all we got was the plethora thingy.....its like the " suits and ties" at these factories come out with some cool piece of gear or pedal but......they get it " half right" ...lol

The HX FX is my one must-have pedal, the firmware updates just keep adding more stuff & improving, amazing bang for the buck when you factor in its loops, MIDI & channel switching capabilities- the Helix reverbs have gotten dramatically better in recent releases, particularly the latest 3.15. I hate to admit how good the overdrives/distortions have become, since I have an unhealthy number of boutique-ish drives in endless rotation that I could easily thin out (but never will!) Personally find HX FX menus/interface vastly better than H9, I often just use the onboard interface for quick edits even when at home with it connected to a PC.

Doubtful any more substantial software features will be added to the H9 by Eventide, but that's OK, they are brimming with ton of stuff to play with already.
