Anyone using Kemper live?

Just curious about who has done it and what kind of results? Would be amazing to have the ability to take out an AC30, Plexi, and BE in the same rig, curious how it cuts in the mix?

I use mine live and run it direct to the FOH and monitor it through an Atomic CLR. I mostly use a BE profile and have zero issues cutting through the mix.

Jeff Loomis and Keith Merrow use them live with their band Conquering Dystopia. From the crowd it sounds just as good as analog tube amps IMO.

I use mine live regularly. I have a powered rack that I run into a Marshall 1960AX with greenbacks for my stage monitoring because I still love the sound through a regular guitar speaker and I take one of the main outs to board to FOH.

It should absolutely stellar! My setup time is about 1:00minute total with my FCB1010. 2 midi cables and a power supply. I run it through the performance mode where I setup banks for songs and I have minimal tap-dancing to do.

love the setup! I've not had a better live tone.

Very similar for me with the exception of an Atomic CLR wedge. Takes just a couple of minutes and I am ready to go.

Bandmate did. Then he bought an AC30 and we could never get the Kemper to sound as good. On recording? Yeah. But not in band practice and our shows sounded better after the switch. I had te same experience with Axe FX - sounded great until I played it alongside an amp. Yeah, there are deeper tweakings and in the right hands it'll be spot on, but fuck all that.

If playing through the Atomic CLR live how much tweaking do you do for what you record with typical rhythm tone to playing live?

Meaning do you have two presets one for recording and and one tweaked for live? anyone try the Blue Amp 2X12 FR-A?

Back in the day, when you bought an album (yes, vinyl), you would copy it to a cassette so you could play it in your car. The tape was never quite as good as the album but it was good enough. That is how to approach a Kemper. Get the best profiles you can and it will sound great live, but not quite as great as a real amp. That little difference is noticeable as a guitar player, it is not noticeable to anyone else. You will cut through just as good or bad as the real amp, it really comes down to if you can handle not playing an amp. I gigged a lot with my Kemper with no issues. If you go direct with no stage volume, whether or not you will be heard is up to the sound man.

I am not bashing the Kemper cuz I HAVEN'T Played one....

But I saw this terrible country/hip hop band at work called "The Lacs." both guitarists were using the kemper rack, and I was blown away by how bad it sounded. Just saying, don't know...maybe those clowns don't know how to set them up or something, but it was beyond thin sounding.

I love my Kemper, but I somewhat agree as far as "feel" in a live situation. The feel is fantastic on the Kemper, but it is not quite the same as having the blaring stack on a stage. Soundwise, I disagree on much difference- it is indistinguishable. Considering the tones, fx, and size, it is a dream to transport to gigs and is a flat out monster in the studio. Put a stack in another room, profile it, and you would be hard pressed to hear or feel which is Kemper and which is the amp for these critical recording applications. YMMV

I was using a powered rack version back in May-June and through the summer. Unfortunately that unit went poof on me and I returned it for the regular rack unit. I was always running a 2x12 or 4x12 cab. I borrowed a friends CLR back in August and haven't looked back. I was really missing the sounds of the cabs through this type of monitoring system. It took me a bit to get used to it but now, I'm really happy with what I hear. I've been trying some different FRFR units to see what I like best. The CLR costs way too much for me to import up here so I'd rather try something that I can get locally.

That being said, i start a 10 evening gig in mid-Dec. I'm only bringing my Kemper and a borrowed FCB footboard with the Uno chip. Thus far, my direct to house tones have been outstanding! I had great luck with the Torpedo Live with an amp head as well in the past but this box takes literally no time to setup and works great for all of my live and home recording needs.

Used a Kemper for nearly 3 years live, haven't missed a tube amp for performing since. Depends on the quality of profiles you use and if you run most of your volume through the PA or not. If you're playing small venues where you just crank a half stack and don't exist very loudly in the PA, you may not like it. I'm much happier with my FOH sound with the Kemper than I was with *ANY* Tube amps I used live, after they were quickly miked and put through the PA.

I have been super happy with the Kemper live. I use mine with a powered Atomic CLR wedge and I am very happy. That being said I like using my tube amps as well. I like them for different reasons. I usually vibe off the band more so than my gear so the Kemper with a FRFR solution is great to me.

Can you run the cab sim to FOH but disable if using an actual guitar cab? I am thinking about going from Eleven Rack to a Kemper and using a nice 1x12 and ISP Stealth for power. I suppose having the cab emulation on coming to the 1x12 isn't THAT big a deal.

Also how are the CLR's vs. something like the Matrix NL212

Yes, you can disable the cab sim on the monitor out and keep them active on the main out.

I use the Yamaha DXR10 and it works pretty well. I have used the power amp and cab method as well, but I was still lugging way too much gear and just opted for the compact rig with a powered speaker. It works well, sometimes I don't even use my speaker at certain venues. FOH and stage monitors or IEM and I am good to go.

I have an Alto powered 10" I am using with my Eleven. Nice, light and sounds good for stage reference.
