Anyone where got/played a Hamer Californian?

Hi guys,

Been looking at these on the net since briowsing old guitar mags.

looks like a cool guitar!

Questuions.

How does maple body sound?
How is the neck shape?

how much are these 2nd hand roughly?

and is it a archtop of ...how do you say it. flat?

any other models i could be interested in? looking for shred :rock:

I have some. They are probably some of the greatest metal/shredder/rock guitars ever made. But I could cover some jazz licks and Pink Floyd all day with them. The maple is tight and bright sounding. The ebony necks are awesome. The neck profile is a thin C/D shape, but not wizard thin. 25.5 scale. Medium jumbo frets. Very fast playability. Schaller Floyd Rose trem. Schaller tuners. Body is flat, not a carve top. Scalloped horns, thinned heel at the neck. Body is slightly smaller than a strat body.

The USA Elite series are the ones you want. Hamer doesn't make them anymore. They only offer the import Slammer series now which is not the same.

A good used one will run between $1000-2000 us dollars, unless the seller doesn't know what they have.

You won't be disapppointed.

do they come in other colours? im not a wood finish guy.

but wow.

might have to get one when im back from overseas in 6 months. will keep a eye out :thumbsup:

where should i be looking? ebay? any other suggestions?

I've seen red and black, but I'm sure other colors are available. Got the amber flame cali on ebay. Just keep watching, they pop up time to time. Check Hamer forums also.

They are the only guitar I play..At one point I had 14 of them..Now just 2......I only have a black glitter one and the homely looking natural finished one but..The homely one is my #1

There's some uber rare custom graphics that Jim O'connor did..the Skulls and the Celestial graphics are some of the more rare finishes..I've had both along with some snakeskin and granite and holoflake and marble finishes...I had a few Elites which are the solid maple bodies ones but found them too bright for me...The needle in the haystack Cali is..the set neck version..Didn't make too many of those and extremely hard to find..I've only had 2 in my lifetime

One of the guys here ran into the Cosmos paint model, I know he sold it and could not buy it at the time. Danhops here has several as well, outstanding shredders :thumbsup:
 
Beware the many Korean ones in the used market. (CL has lots).

I used to have a metallic light blue Cali, which is one of the only pieces of gear I totally regret selling. I only know about the Korean used supply because I've had my eye out for an American one lately.

Have you had much luck in finding one? i mean as someone poinmted out there is one on ebay at the moment

One of the best guitars I have owned.

Great tone and feel.

I am pretty much a meat and potato guys these days....

Hey guys, I found a hamer californian used for really cheap.
But the guy selling it doesnt know anything it seems.
its a model without the boomerangs, bolt on, dot inlays, 27 frets and natural finish like kurtstuff's one on the right.
are these models any good? or could it be a cheap nasty import version?
do all the old models have OFR's or some have licensed copies.
The guitars at his parents house so hes no help with answering questions
 
If the headstock doesn't say Hamer U.S.A. then it's an import. Any pics available?
