so on my strat i have been noticing when i do a decent bend on the b string i hear a creaking in my guitar. I first thought it was comming from around the nut area so i didnt think much of it, maybe just that i needed to put some nut sauce on or something. I also noted some time ago that there was a hairline crack in the neck near the skunk stripe closer to the body of the guitar but i thought this was just in the finish and unrelated to the creak. A few days ago i got curious as to if i could fix the creak then i located it to the crack in the neck. Obviously its not just a crack in the finish - anyway to find out how bad it is or to fix it?

Take it to a luthier. I basically snapped the headstock off of my Les Paul not too long ago when it fell off a stand, and $150 later you can't tell anything happened. Your issue sounds a lot less serious too - so unless you want to try to squirt some wood glue in the crack and clamp it up, take it to a repair shop - it shouldn't be too bad.

I agree. My 68 D-18 had a bad crack in the neck and it looked like it wasn't all that long until my repair guy looked at it. The nut had to come off to properly do the repair. You must go to a high end quality shop with a excellant reputation. In Philly its Ron Regerio. The spelling may be wrong. He is on the list of Martin warranty repair sites on thier website. Best I ever delt with and prices were fair.
