One of my favorite bands. Thought I'd share a nice youtube find here. For those of you who don't know or remember the band, they had brief fame in the early '80's with their "Nature of the Beast" album...songs like Just Between You and Me and Sign of the Gypsy Queen.

Over their career (starting in 1969), they had a strange mix of heavy songs but also had their fare share of extremely tacky songs. For the most part of their existence, they had three lead guitarists and they usually traded leads when it came to the solo spots. One of the cool things I found is that their album sleeve/lyric sheets would list who played the solo on each song or at what time in the song. Even there sappy/poppy songs would usually have killer leads.

This is from their 1980 Harder/Faster album (one of my desert island favorites). The song is a King Crimson cover. Gotta check out the trade-off's at ~4:00.

21st Century Schizoid Man (vocals by Brian Greenway -not their main lead singer).

Cheesy? You mean like "If You see Kay"?

I actually saw them live about 8 years ago, great show.

Myles Goodwyn is a real dick!
My friend played guitar for them and I've played shows with April Wine a few times, he's not a nice person.

"Harder Faster" and "Nature Of The Beast" are definitely great albums.

Sucks to meet someone you looked up to as a high schooler and he's a real asshat.

I don't know why, but I absolutely love the Harder/Faster and Nature of the Beast CD's. I was in 8th grade or so and somebody mentioned the band, I happened to see the album at the store and I bought it. I've loved it ever since. They actually do have some absolutely killer songs like "roller" and "I like to rock" and I really think they had a period where they were very creative. I mean, they really did the three guitar thing well. Like playing the "I like to Rock" riff, with Day Tripper and Cant get no Satisfaction on top of it.!!

But you are right, they have some embarrassingly tacky song titles like:

Comin' right down on top of me
Get Ready for love
Hot on the heels of love
Baby done got some soul
Cum hear the band
Tonight is a wonderful night to fall in love
oowatanite
slow poke

etc....But, they had a period of two albums where they just rocked!

I probably agree, but I don't know him. I guess he basically claimed "exhaustion" after their Nature of the beast (not Number of the beast) tour and moved to the bahama's and made everyone else wait. He was the leader of the band, but I suppose also the source of some of their horrendously poppy stuff.

I sold my Splawn cab to one of the guitarist earlier this summer :)
He answered my Craiglslist ad :D

Like your avatar! I was in this band in 92,93,94,95,96. I still join them onstage for a couple of tunes when they play near or in Montreal. Here a vid with me in it. I'm using my SLO for the solo. I'm the one playing the 57 goldtop. By the way, Myles is in the hospital.

He passed out on the way to the airport and fell over backwards on his head. Stitches etc.
They had to cancel gigs for the month of Dec.
