Are Super Strat/Tele Guitars ULTIMATE LIVE instruments?

In my opinion, I think they are.

My Rohlack, Tom Anderson, and Suhr can just about do it all in a live gigging situation.

There’s enough pickup options on each to make me comfortable using any of them.

They also have humbuckers in the bridge, which is a must for me.

Im glad you brought this up. Was thinking on Sunday about this very issue. I just had a show the other night. 3 types of guitars I used. LP, Strat, PRS. For some reason my Ibanez and Jackson are specific for certain types of music.
In my hands; the PRS seems to do the best for anything I play.

Id say 90% yes.I have many super strats.Tom a,charvel cs,jacksons, etc. And I love how versatile they are.
But I also have a master built tele w/ benders, and a master built strat-they will do thier " thing" just a bit better with a little more authenticity than the high end super strat..But its like splitting hairs at that point.I do however grab my super strats the most tho.

I think live, any guitar you're comfortable playing all night is the one you want. Nuances with different pickups and scale or whatever are just out the window compared to your playing and the amplification/PA/acoustics of the venue.

I do pretty much all my gigs with my Warmoth super strats and haven't touched my Gibsons in a year. (I love the Charvel as well) They are real versatile guitars and I can get a lot of tones out of them. The one on the bottom sounds the best but they all sound really good. My only complaint about Warmoths is that the polyurethane finish is too thick. I just had the finish stripped off of the brown one and it has an oil/matte finish now. I'm looking forward to getting it back this week.

Love super strats, but the Tele is the ugliest body ever. I can appreciate the fact that nothing else sounds like a Teleaster, but I think metal teles are the dumbest looking things ever. It's like hipsters trying to be cool by looking uncool.

Have I just been unlucky getting Telecasters that neck dive or do other people just deal with it? Drives me nuts.

90% strat style guitars. all of my strats have double singles in them if they are not already equipped with humbuckers. I am not a big whammy bar guy so all of my guitars with the exception of my LTD George Lynch Burnt Tiger have standard non floyd rose trems on them.

You’ve got a very nice collection of guitars.

Not only are superstrats the best for live, but the best for everything, at least for me. I haven't owned anything that fell outside the strat/superstrat category in a couple of decades. The closest I have is an old San Dimas Jackson (pointy headstock and all) with 3 singles (Bardens really)....and a Floyd and a Charvel-quality/style of neck.

Everything else is H/H or H/S/S or H/S and strat-shaped.

EDIT: Sorry, I lied. I have a couple of Explorer bodied, strat-necked abominations around. I love them. Now I feel guilty about forgetting them the first time around.

I kinda like them aesthetically, but I've never played one and generally find strats more comfortable than teles.

Maybe it's just my rebellious nature, enjoying seeing the metalized version of a tele.

I grew up with Ibanez stuff and love super strats, but after trying to milk a guitar for all it’s worth and generally falling just a bit short on things like a legit sounding single coil Strat neck pickup, or the 2/4 positions, I really wanted to get those exact sounds without compromising. I mean, if I were playing a gig that I used one of those particular sounds for 5 minutes in a 3-hour set, fuck it, I’ll bring something versatile, but for the funk rock cover band I just joined, I plan on bringing both a Strat and a Les Paul.

As much as I love a LP style guitar I would agree- a H/S/S or H/S/H strat is the Swiss army knife for gigging, ESPECIALLY if you need to cover a lot of sonic territory.

This is my #1, with something with a fixed bridge or blocked trem for drop D stuff live.

Jesus! 5th refret? Maybe I don’t play enough🫤
