Billy Howerdel (formerly of A Perfect Circle) just bought four Ultras for their upcoming tour. Album in stores April 8.

I thought that was pretty cool, thought I would share...........

Interesting. I remember when Pods first came out and a few national acts toured with them for a year or so. You still see the Pod Pros in national acts racks for effects. It will be interesting to see how the Axe holds up and what the opinion is a year down the road.

Now all I need is for the market to get flooded with good tube amps because everyone ditches theirs for an Axe so that the prices drop and I can then afford a Bogner and the like.

PODs should not be mentioned in the same thread as the Axe FX.

Finally... I got on a band-wagon before Billy. :D

After reading a couple of interviews, he turned me onto the MPX G2, but when I got mine, it had technical difficulties and I ended up getting a Standard, then an Ultra. Works great for the kind of stuff he does.

They probably won't be as soon as that $1500 unit is direct recorded doing some heavy rock and metal tones that sound as good as a $300 POD.

I'm no POD fan boy, I'm just saying......

There are few good ones floating around, but I know what you're saying; most of the heavy ones are lacking. It's just got to get into the hands of more people who know how to get a good tone to tape. That being said I have heard maybe 10 heavy Axe-Fx clips which I can recall at least 3-4 of them being good. That's a much better ratio than the POD clips I've heard. The problem is there are a heck of a lot more POD clips so there are a lot more better clips, so the perception this creates needs to be taken into account. I'm just looking forward to when more of these guys who can work wonders with a POD get a hold of the Axe-Fx.

True. I heard one real good higher gain clip from the Axe-Fx and learned that it had four guitar tracks in the mix. I heard tons of good Pod clips and those are a couple thousand cheaper. I owned the Axe-Fx Ultra for a few days, I ended up sending mine back for a refund based on many reasons and not one of them was because I couldn't afford to keep it. I honestly didn't drastically hear the improvement in the modeling for direct recording. I do recall that it did "feel" a bit better than other modelers I tried but you can always do that by using a pedal in front of a modeler, always worked for me.

Scott Peterson is going to pump you while wearing his cowboy hat for stating this crap.

How dare you voice an opposing opinion! :gethim: That is not allowed!

  :D

I think it is cool that you actually gave it a shot and found it wasn't doing it for you. I certainly don't think it is all things to all people as some folks seem to think. I do think it is the best piece of guitar amplification gear I have ever purchased, but that is my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.......
:emofag: :grim:

That clip with the 4 different guitars in it sounded KILLER!! but, doubling up guitars and using different amps is not uncommon for real amps to get that full on killer sound, so I have no issues that the person did it to get it to sound that good, just a good comomon recording technique. I often route a DI'd electric to different amps in Amplitube 2 to get a fuller thicker sound. The fact that a modeler can sound that good is why I have one on order. I have tried just about every amp modeler because I do alot of song writing and for time, recall purposes, Amp sims are just fast and easy. Some of the clips I have heard are too compressed and eq'd, but some of them sound fantastic, and really, I am just excited to know that in the hands of someone who knows how to dial in a better sound then maybe a factory preset, that the Axe fx can truly deliver better results then ANY modeler out there, at least from knowing what I have used, and hearing constant good clips from the Axe.

So, really, even if you don't like some of the sounds, I think the potential ils there to dial in what you like. Mine will be coming this week, excitied.

I think they are just using it for FX, same as myself. It sounds just as good as my Eventide and is much easier to use for a guitar live rig. The amp models are just a nice bonus for me, and they do feel WAY better to play then POD IMO.

Well isn't that cool! I have tickets to see Ashes Divide 5/25 here at a club in Vermont.. I think Howerdal is great , and I also am 1 of the original owners of the Axe-Fx.. It's no comparison to PODs by the way .. but people have to be able to write their own programs/presets on it , as the stock presets aren't great. It's 1 of the best pieces of gear ever to me, but that said, I have some of the nicest amps too and rotate thru them

Anyway, can't wait to see him , as it's at Higher Ground , and it's a great club, and always has great sound

Eric
