I just set up my new VH4 with my new Voodoolab GC and my new TC G-force.
So far so good. The G-force was pretty easy to use with the GC.

The only thing I haven't yet figured out is Instant Access functions on the VH4. I would like to assign a button on the GC to toggle the Insert loop ON/OFF relative to the active channel.
Also I would like to be able to toggle ON/OFF on "Send2"

Anyone knows why you can't use "Send2" with "serial return"?

You will need to assign the amp a different PC number than the GCX (always #1) and the GForce to get them all 3 to talk to each other, if you haven't done this yet. Once you do that, you have to select the function on the VH4 and program it in the VH4 first (say press the Send 2 button and hold down the program button until the lights flash). Assign this some instant access control on the Ground Controller.

Correct. I recommend using individual MIDI-channels for each unit. Makes it a lot easier to configure. In other words, don't use the factory preset Omni-mode (=reads all MIDI-channels) in VH4 (nor in G-Force or other units). See the user's manual in case of unsertainty of how to change the mode.

I successfully use GCP+GCX to control VH4, MAKO and all my rack stuff (~10U) so feel free to ask if you have some problems. I will do my best to help you.

I suppose I need a better basic understanding of the different terms and expressions.

How do I assign a different midi channel to the amp and G-force?

Which of all the numbers indicate what?

I can't really find much help in the manuals.

And just to clear it up. I don't have a GCX.

You will need to get the amp out of Omni mode, which it is normally in. You can manually assign it a "Channel" or it will search for one on its on. If you want the amp to recognize a channel and pick its on, with your Midi controller connected to the amp and the amp on, just hold in the MUTE button and hit any button on your Midi controller. It will lock itself onto an open channel.

Or, if you want to assign it a channel, hold the MUTE button and select your Midi channel by use the amp channels, like this:

Midi Channel Ch1 CH2 CH3 CH4

1 off off off off
2 on off off off
3 off on off off
4 on on off off
5 off off on off
6 on off on off
7 off on on off
8 on on on off
9 off off off on
10 on off off on
11 off on off on
12 on on off on
13 off off on on
14 on off on on
15 off on on on
16 on on on on

Yes?

As for your question about Send 2, it is for the parallel FX loop and switchable, which it why it is much more preferable to use over the serial loop. Switch out whatever is in the FX loop. Whereas the SEND 1 if something is plugged in, it stays in, then you have A/D/A conversion issue the whole time you are playing.

If you are running just the amp and the GForce, you can assign your GForce to channel 1 and the amp as channel 2. Just think of Midi controllers as a universal TV remote. You got to code in which TV it needs to talk to. It recognizes up to 5 different channels but you got to tell it which is which.

...and the G-Force's MIDI-channels will be assigned somewhere on the options/setup/utilities/configuration. Have not owned a G-Force for years anymore so I don't remember the accurate term for the system options in the Force. However, it should say clearly MIDI-channel in it and if only I am not completely misleaded check the "I/O setup".

I don't know where are you from so as universal as English is maybe we use the US-manual here:

Check pages 21 - 23

By the way, are you familiar how to assign the devices in GCP and how to program the GCP's presets for all the devices?

No. I would not say that I am.

OK. Im at work now so will answer to you very briefly, but if needed I can write a little longer instructions a bit later. I hope I recall everything correctly.

One key thing is, that in GCP, there is in a way two setups. One "master"-setup and individual setups for each preset.

1. Assign all devices to a certain MIDI-channel. E.g. VH4 to MIDI-channel 1, G-Force to Ch 2, device X to Ch 3 and so on.
I like to use running numbering according to the MIDI-connections/MIDI-chain. In other words this means that the device that is connected first in the MIDI-chain is operating in MIDI-channel 1 and the secound device in the chain is operating in channel 2. Of course this is not neccessary, but makes problemsolving a bit easier.

2. Go to the GCP's setup (press and hold both "setup"-buttons for approximately two seconds).
- Go to "devices"
- Name your devices there and assign the MIDI-channel accordingly
- Exit the "setup"-mode

3. Go to a certain preset (i.e. preset no. 1)
- Hold the "edit" button
- Press the "down"-arrow until you see the device you want to program (hope you named them).
- The number next to the device is the PC (Program Change) "signal" that will be send to the device. This should be in realtime, so please try different values and see what happens in the amp/G-force/other device.
- Press down and repeat for the other devices.
- Save and exit.
- Try switching the presets and see if functions as you like it to do.
- If OK, repeat for other presets.

Hope you got the idea. Also the GCP-manual should guide you through if problems occur.
