I am a Diezel Rookie (as you once were) and I am more excited about the tone of my new VH4S than anything else I've ever heard. I am new to MIDI. All my friends and peers are very excited too... but still waiting to have me start using my Diezel live because I want to have it completely mastered before I present it to everyone and they finally experience their own first impression of Diezel tone from MY Diezel. I feel a great deal of responsability in that thought. Since you only get (1) chance to make an amazing first impression, I want to have things situated so I can provide the best possible Diezel presentation. I am being patient as this is important to me.

The great thing about this board is the members generousity and caring. With that said, on behalf of other Diezel Rookies, I am asking you elders to provide summary descriptions/pictures of how you have your Diezels wired.... what kind of midi controllers, what effects in which channels what are you using in your loops... things to avoid... how you have your system wired and why. We want to learn from your experience to be stronger/smarter/more versatile. Please take a minute and offer something-anything of your knowledge as a Christmas present to your younger brothers in the Diezel family.

Thank you, and Merry Christmas...

i have great luck in live situations with the tc electronics g system.it allows control of amp and effects in the press of one button. (not to mention if its good enough for steve vai its good enough for me :) ) in the studio i run herbert completely dry and add effects post production. click my links for some pics and audio of my live rig.
peace and welcome to the Diezel cult

Thank you Van Hellion....first to respond.... Merry Christmas to you brother.... your rig sounds awesome....seems The TC G system is obviously one of the top of the line rack units? I don't know if I have the knowledge to make that happen for myself....

I have an assortment of individual pedals (including the TC chorus) to work with for now...... any one out there working with individual pedals?? I was thinking about these ideas:
Boss Compressor to channel 1 insert
Alesis stereo delay to effects loop 1
TC Stereo Chorus to effects loop 2

Wah, Tremelo, Pitch Shift, Phaser, Flanger, Whammy, Tuner, Noise Suppressor out front on the floor with me...in front of the VH4S.

If i buy a Behringer FC1010 it has two expression pedals...maybe I could assign loop 1 and 2 to those pedals to bring chorus and delay in and out without changing presets?

so I can do a midi "program" change to select channels 1 thru 4 on my amp, and then have midi "control" changes that add effects to that channel right? This means I have to create a bank per channel and bank up and down between 4 banks to get from channel 1 clean with chorus to channel 4 heavy with delay. Depending on the foot controller, that includes first banking up or down, then hopefully choosing the (unmarked) corrrect button in the new bank.... Seems cumbersome. What am I missing? How do ya'll streamline this for quick accurate LIVE changes?

only thing , you might want your compressor in front of the amp instead of on an insert. i just prefer the sound of a compressor first. just my 2 cents. good luck bro, sounds like you got a nice rig!

I use one bank per song, and just have the patches in order of use in that song.

My controller also has an instant access mode so you can also switch FX in and out in addition to presets.

I agree with you Van Hellion.... I put the compressor in the insert of channel 1 and I didn't get as much out of it compared to just having it in front of my amp.... I can see trying my noise gate in a channel insert, but then I will likely need it for channel 3 and 4, maybe sometimes on channel 2 as well... I don't want to have 3 noise gates....guess that pedal will stay on the floor out front too!

NEW QUESTION: what (if any) pedals do ya'll put in your channel inserts?

Thank you for your input ENDITOL, you definately have a point but this is the direction I've been trying to avoid.... I normally play 3 one hour sets, so that just seemed like a lot of programming.... are you using a Ground Control Pro and GCX? I like the idea of presets that you can switch effects in and out of. Do you label the buttons on your foot controller for these effects or do they change with every preset so you can't label them?

I used to have a GCP + GCX but now I use a Musicom EFX MKII. The cool thing about the GCP is you can mix 4 presets with 8 (i think) instant access switches. So when I had mine yes I labeled all the FX and switched them in and out per preset.

only other thing i might add, its worth it to have the rack version of the isp decimator gate. it works flawlessly!! i know many members here use it.

So then I would need a GCP and a GCX to make this happen right? It seems inevitable, I am going to end up with a rack!?

Hey Bro,

I'm about 6,000% positive that I met you in Brett Hestlas studio/your practice spot in Orlando a few weeks ago....we spoke about your new VH4 Stereo. Small world if you're the same guy...

Anyways, I'm gonna go ahead and add another mark to the G System/ISP decimator side of the tally board.

With the G System it's very simple one button switching that does EVERY change for you. I can be on channel 1 with some delay and reverb and press one button and be on channel 3 with a solo boost, different delay, and chorus. I HATE tap dancing :) The G System REALLY takes some time to set up correctly, I recommend rack mounting it and using the 4 cable method.

The only thing I'm not sure about is how it would work exactly that you could use it with the Stereo aspect of the VH4S....I've never checked one out other then the few seconds I spent looking at the one in Florida that I'm sure is yours....

Good luck and any questions I would love to help! I think I'll be back down there recording again around Marchish....waiting to hear back on a set time.

PEACE,

Justin

What's up Justin... yes we definately met at my studio when you came to record with Brett... nice call, thanks for reaching out. I hope ya'll enjoyed it. I'm taking my time deciding how to wire my rig. The main purpose for the Diezel is to use for recording in our original camp where I would wire and program it for just a handful of our originals and use it live...but it sounds so good I'm tempted to drag it around and use it in Money Shot which requires 3 one hour sets of covers, so a lot more programming if I'm in a rack situation! I'm old school so I'm used to some pedals on the floor with a channel switcher and a delay in the effects loop. Not used to MIDI so I was looking to locate a simple channel switcher. The other option is to rack the Diezel and the Dual Rec, by a GCP and GCX and engineer a 2 amp midi system with my pedals . Its almost an all or nothing choice.... simple midi switch or midi program (which I would need help with).

If you are down in early March, we have the Main Stage shows in Daytona Beach for Bike WeeK.... it's an experience if you've never been.... the Diezel needs to be on stage for those shows....
