So.

Right now I'm running a 1960B with G12T75s and an ancient, battle-scarred Boogie Recto slant 412 with MC90s (closed back) with my Herbert. The sound is pretty good but I can't help but wondering about Avatar cabinets. I'd like to replace the 1960B with something a little beefier, maybe an Avatar Vintage 412 with V30s and K100s in an X pattern.

Any thoughts? I've always heard really good things about Avatar and their build quality but have lately been reading mixed responses. School me, guys!

(I'd get a Diezel FL412 but both my bank account and my fiance said 'no' )

I have played mine thru a friends. Nice cabs! I prefer them to Marshall & Boogie hands down. I also like the Splawn cabs. They sound really good too & are built like tanks!

Take your fiances ring back..then you could buy a new amp & cab!

Run her ass off while she is still a fiance. You will be lucky to buy guitar strings a few months from now :gethim: :gethim: :gethim:

Cheap is cheap for a reason. I don't own an Avatar, but look at the construction compared to a Mills or a Mesa or a Diezel. I think the Herbie will blow the back right off an Avatar. Spend the few hundred extra and get David to build you a 4x12 Afterburner.

Avatar's a nice cab, But Steve is Right...

if you are gonna be playing loud & proud...spend the dough & get a Diezel or a Mills cab. They are worth it. :D

steve..did u get your Mills yet?

Any comparisons with the Mills vs the new diezels? Especially the hempcone..?>?

Dump the idea of using cheapies... avatar, mills, whatever. You couldn't be happier than with a newer Diezel cab.

Besides the fact that a selected brand of head and cab are designed to work together, the Diezel cabs are probably the best thing on the market. Don't forget, mismatched gear looks silly anyway.

I use Avatars very often, nothing falls out anywhere. The only time I was scared that it would fall apart was when I played my bass head through it, but it didn't. The deal with Avatar is that you may have to do some work after you get the cab, like tightening some screws, their jacks are cheap shit & inside is very rough. I advice stapling some thin layer of insulation inside on sides to get the best out of them. I think they are great if you want something to kick around for gigs. With what you already have I wouldn't buy one if you were looking to increase your sound palette by it. I would advice trying different speakers in you existing cabinets.

Do what I did, wait until Redstar audio has a demo Havok 412. I replace the Texas heats with K-100s so I have two Wizards, and two K-100s. It is scary big sounding, and that cab is built like a tank. I got the cab for $500, the K-100s for $160, and sold the Texas heats for $100. Total cost $560. Built much better then an Avatar. Even the 2x12 with a Wizard, and K-100, or two wizards in it would be great. If you call redstar you might be able to get them to put two wizards in it. I just don't like the Texas heat drivers.
