Awaiting my new tone machine......VH4S.....

......so I am in the market for a new guitar. I currently have a Marshall JCM800 2x12 open back(I grew up with a 100 Watt Plexi) and I have a Gibson Standard with PAF's(circa 1983) and a Mexican strat with DiMarzios Single Humbuckers(a nice cheap guitar)....I am looking at Esp's in the $1000-$1500 range. Dual 81's or split with an 85...? I remember reading something about passive Pickups with a high gain amp here. I grew up listening to Deep Purple, Sabbath and seem to have rediscovered my metal roots. Maybe I need two guitars....
When I demoed this amp for the first time I wish I had a picture of my face. Eyes wide open....jaw dropped......and then an ear to ear grin.....Mmmmm...TONE MACHINES.....

Please don't go with EMG's. Too sterile and lame.

With your VH4 you will be fine with passive pickups. My favourite is the Duncan Custom 5.
If you wanna go with actives, get the Duncan Blackouts, much more life in them then EMG's.

thats exactly what my face looked like when i demoed the VH4 (after 2-3 hours testing other amps)...something like this: first: then:
