Have any of you guys had experience using the Axe FX as an effects-only processor in the 4 cable meothod? In particular, it would be for two amps in a stereo steup (essentially making it a 7 cable method so-to-speak).

I am already running midi to control my amp channels, misc effects but would like to replace my entire pedalboard with the Axe FX.

Mods and Drives in front, delays reverbs pitch in the effects loop. Also looking to have the ability to devote two expression pedals to wah & volume to be on at all times (not turning on an IA switch prior to engaging the pedal).

Any thoughts or stories, please share. Thanks!

I am also interested since no one wants to buy my axe fx. Not much of an fx guy but that could change. How do you hook it up in the loop of a tube amp?

i experimented with my ultra in 4CM and it was not so great although a major improvement over the line 6 m13 i tried to run 4CM prior.

massive difference between plugging straight in to the amp versus the signal loss and noise that came with 4CM:

gtr into axe-->A to D/ D to A--->axe send to amp input--->amp send (or in my case line out of hotplate) to axe fx return--->A to D/ D to A axe main stereo outputs=====

return to amp fx return and second amp for stereo
or
in my case stereo out of axe to stereo power amp for w/d/w

and even in my best case scenario with a great amp; the carol ann OD2r---the signal "displacement" and noise was distracting enough to me while playing the rig that way that i ceased and desisted, although people listening thought it sounded great so to be fair it was more a feel thing.

but when you are already fighting the digital battle the additional a/d-d/a rodeo is uncool.

i hear fractal have made a serious attempt to reconcile this issue on the new axeII xl and fx-8.

I tried with the Axe-2. Tons of noise and I tried the humbuster cables and still didn't work great. If you wanted a setup like that you'd be better off just using the Axe-2 with a stereo poweramp with 2 cabinets. Or as Mentone says, checkout the new fractal effects only unit.

I was actually looking into that unit, but seems like it will cost a bit more than the original Axe Fx. But if you guys haven't had favorable experiences using it in the 4CM, Ill probably look further into the effects unit.

Asked the same question over at HRI last year and got the same type of answers, seems the new FX8 is the way to go with the better processing than the older Standard and even the Ultra...Plus it was really designed for the whole 4CM too..

I ran my ultra in the loop of the 5153 and it was awesome! Never tried the 4 cable thing though..

I've seen a lot of pro's run it in the loop, so I would assume that sounded good. Unfortunately the 4CM doesn't sound too promising though.

dont have one but man that would be an all in one solution i gues

In the loop, it's great or line out for a W/D/W but 4cm not so much. You lose that guitar direct to amp mojo going through the digital convertors.
