Leon Todd is da man  The Axe FX III is so good!!! Playing starts at about 2:36

Shouldn't the title read..."Leon Todd can dial in an axefx III better than you ever could..."?

Man, that sounded great! I have the Axe-Fx II and I know eventually I'll end up getting one of those. There is bit more "3D" in what I'm hearing in my unit and I know that has a lot to with the extra processing power, updates, etc.

It does sound good. And its' a cool piece of gear. But I never have the patience to sit a tweak like that. So I sold mine yesterday and bought a Kemper instead.

One of my favourite things about it was the built in metronome.

Sounds cool, but I’ll be that guy and say I find the bottom end in that clip to not sound like a tube amp. I wonder how it sounds and feels in the room?

Leon chose an amp & cab IR in that video & it already sounded very good before he even adjusted basic tone knobs. I don’t understand the endless tweaking talking point that some people claim. I find it very easy to get great tones in a matter of minutes with my III.

I also have a Kemper & dig it, but I use my III way more because it’s such an all ‘round better tone shaping unit than the KPA.

It’s all good though....great time to be into guitar gear

When I first got my Axe-Fx II, around 2012 if I remember correctly, I felt like all I was doing was tweaking and adjusting things, etc. Now, I barely touch a thing after Cliff adjusted the options a few years ago. There are tons of things that "can" be adjusted but now Fractal has most things setup in an stock ideal setting and then users can adjust based on their own preferences.

I had an one of the first axefx and and didn’t tweak much at all. I can’t remember what amp I had at the time but it only took me a few mins to dial it in to match it (using the same cab, not sims). I sold it because I only used one or two sounds and thought it was overkill.

That does sound great! I have a bunch of amps, only a slim few that I play, and even then, at bedroom levels after the kids are asleep. I've been debating about diving in, but I'm concerned with the feel of digital. In previous generations, they didn't quite have the sag right, compared to a real amp. Has that gotten better? Clearly this sounds amazing if used for recording.

I haven't updated the firmware in my Axe-Fx II in a long time, especially since they are not doing updates for it with the III being out, but I remember when Fractal had the "Quantum" update it really changed so much about the "feel" of the amps in there.

I used to own tube amps over the years including Splawn, ENGL, Mesa Rectifiers, Modded Marshalls, 5150-III, etc. and I never miss the tones or feel of having a real amp. I haven't bought another amp since I got my Axe-Fx II back in 2012. I still love tube and solid state amps but for me, it just works having the Fractal stuff. I do alot of recordings and don't gig so I'm running mine at home into studio monitors.

They just released an ARES update for the Axe II last week. Might want to check it out!

Thanks for posting, I watched that last night. He does a great job and is entertaining as well.

Long time Fractal guy here, I've had the Standard, Ultra, Axe II and now the Axe III, but I have not spent nearly the time with the Axe III as I did with earlier ones. I dialed in 2 basic patches that sound great and I've kind of left it at that. I use it most of the time coming out of my Suhr Reactive Load for for Cab IR's. I LOVE the Cab Packs and Cab Lab is the best IR mixing tool for me. Anyway...I really should do more with it.
