Do you think it would be necessary or of any benefit to have the BBE Sonic Maximizer 482i in the rack chain ? would it improve the sound quality ? has anyone tried this ? I use a Diezel Herbert and the Axe Ultra, thinking of adding this to it cause I hear so many good things about it. cheers

I used to run a Sonic Max with my VH4. All they do is spike certain frequencies. It will brighten the sound in a way that is difficult to get out of tweaking the amp's presence and treble because it's so specific. I always kept mine dialed way back though (9 o'clock or lower).

If you can borrow one and try it, that will be the best verdict. I cut mine out because I didn't see it as a necessary component. YMMV. ;)

I usually run a 482i maximizer in my effect loop as well.
Some amps love it......some not so much!
The Rivera KR7......does not sound better with it!

The Mark III...
Really brings it!

I don't think it will add anything good.

it's not like a 5150...

just curious to know why you say don't do it ? previous experience ?

Try it. You might like it.
However, when I had a BBE unit, it was only really useful as an ultra-simple 2-band EQ.
There's really not much validity to the "BBE Process"...if you set the unit so that there's no difference in the frequency response, you won't notice it doing much of anything at all. However, if you've already got the unit, give it a try. It certainly won't hurt anything.

For my uses, though, a decent rack EQ was a much better investment.

Ive had a couple of them and didn't like them as much as just using a clean boost pedal.

I have the sonic stomp pedal through the effects loop and don't use it with the herbert. I can take the mid cut level knob and dime and get a similar scooped sound that is better than the scooped sound that the BBE gives.

The BBE just scoops the heck out of the sound.

a wise man once told me...if u pay over $2000 for an amp, why would you add a Sonic Maximizer to it? If you had a 5150 or a Rectumfier, i would. Not with a Diezel..or anything in that realm. Its like taking a balony sandwich to a 5 Star Establishment!

Yeah I hate this thing and its phase distortions.

it seems to scoop out mids also which IMO is detrimental to good guitar sounds.

I am biased though, I loathe the BBE....

I've got a VH4S and a 482i in my analog synth rack, I will try to make a video for samples, just to hear what it can sound like...

Good lord no.

The BBE should be destroyed with fire.

Try it, you never know. The key to using the BBE is to set it where you can't tell when it's on, but you miss it when it's off.
