...on the Das Metal model (the Vh4 modeling on the Axe)

what do you think about it? How similar is it? the "bigness", the overall sound.

Peter, if you have an opinion I'd love to hear it too.

most of the clips/videos I've seen really show some "tube-like" harmonics from the little box....to me that's unbelievable....how could they do this with a digital chip....

anyways....share your thoughts on this cool box.

oh that's for sure, if it really COULD duplicate the amps 100% I guess a lot of amp companies would be out of business right?

but I'm interested in knowing how close are they.....

Depending on the environment it can come close. Peter's powersections have such an uummmmpphh thats hard to come by with anything else than say a powersection of a Diezel.

IMO a combination of AxeFX for fx and some vintage amp models paired WITH (not against) a Diezel to me would be the PERFECT rig.

i havent had the chance to play it yet, but i've heard shitloads of clips, also of friends, and judging by that - they really did an awesome thing with the Axe Fx, and especially the Das Metall model did come near to the (by us) well known and loved sound (altough i thought it sounded more Eini than VH4), but as Duesentrieb already said - even if they got SOMEWHERE close to the ground-tone, there is still way too much missing from the real thing.

nevertheless - i would love to have it, as i would love to have most of the things i do not need.

that's exactly what I'll do Olaf... I'm selling the Vh4 (which reminds me I gotta take the pics, but I've been quite busy lately), simply because, 1) it's a little bit too big, I'm perfectly fine with the Einstein 2) the Axe has that Vh4 model which from what I've heard is GREAT, so I ca still have some of that VH4 flavor, without the big head.

I'll run the Axe along with the Einstein (using it's poweramp) or try the 4 cable method so I can have the Einstein and the Axe together.

:gethim:

You are getting rid of VH4???  :aww:

He infects another customer with the virus, Terry ;)

No, the thing is like I said when I bought the Vh4.... I wanted to see which one goes and which one stays.

I have to move to America next year, and I'm packing A LOT of stuff......and 3 heads is some weight. I'd keep the Vh4 but since the Axe does that Vh4 sound convincingly well (as I've heard on numerous clips, and from Olaf's perspective) I can have the Einstein AND the Vh4 plus A LOT more amps in one single unit. It's very appealing to me, specially for recording purposes.

I'm not a tweaker, so it kind of scares me a little to dig into it, but hell I'm more than capable of doing it. I just need to program 4 or 5 amps the way I want then, store them in a Midi preset and hook the Axe to the Einstein's poweramp and Voila! hehehe

The Einstein is still my main amp tho.

But I love the Vh4, for real....... but sometimes you just cannot own all those amps together. At least I can't (financially speaking)

This is true however I wonder how he found the cure...lol.

Get the axe-fx and find out for yourself and even if you dont dig it you have a fantasic world class fx unit to run your real Diezels through.

win / win situation if you ask me.

thank you Digi, I also think the same thing..... it's kind of a Win/win

I can put some time into and get 3 or 4 REALLY GREAT souding amps (have em saved and patched up) and then have a few more just for jamming and rehearsal. Plus I'll have some amazing sounds ready to go for recording, and the great FX which I can use to run only through my Einstein (I was looking into getting a G-major or something like that, but with this I think I have it all: FX/amp sim/Recording flexibility.

And like I said without making it compete with the Einstein, more like "complement" it.

You can get extremely close by actually running the Das Metall model into a real VH4's power section - I think Cliff has the preamp modeled fairly well. Trying to get the same sound using the Axe-FX's power and cab modeling though I thought there was still something missing. He added a high resolution IR of a Bogner 4X12 V30 cab in the latest updates though, so that may improve things, but I didn't get a chance to try that before I sold the Axe-FX.

You sold your Fx?? Why that? everybody is raving about it.

I played two different Axe-fx's for several hours before buying the herbert. It sounded good and all but the Herbert just blew my mind. It really came down to the "FEEL" of the amp. Hope that hits the nail on the head in describing what i mean.

I've been using the Axe FX without my Diezels for over a year now at gigs. So easy to setup. Using it with FRFR monitors. But I'm going back to a Head in Jan. The Axe will still get used for FX and maybe as a pre into the heads power section for certain tones. But I miss having a head's feel and tone which I thought I had dialed into the Axe - until I hooked up my Diezels again. Also, probably looking at getting a CAA OD 100 SE+ for a different flavor. I only played live with the Axe, and it is really cool, worth having, but something still missing. But I would never sell it as the routing and FX kick butt and the sims are getting better everyday.
