Bad tone day...Mod50 .... TS 5881s

...gah! I hate bad tone days make me want to sell all my gear.

I really tried to like this tube but I can't get what you guys see in 'em at all.....going back to the Sovteks or heck, even the JJs sound better. :-/

Ibby JEM77V , couldn't get what I wanted out of the EG3/4 or EG5.....and the 3/4 is probably my favorite module...the reason I even keep the Egnater Dual around.

What the issue exactly? Im assuming you did the proper biasing.

Was the first thing I checked...coz they were sounding cold and fizzy...everyone on here said 32 was the way to go..one is at 32, tthe other at 30.9 .. which I figure is close enough to not care :-/

Honestly, this was so bad..I'm like "Right the Egnater goes up for sale tomorrow..."

I guess I'll just use different tubes, I ain't shelling out for another $40 of TS 5881s to find out they all sound this way.

Today will certainly be louder...just in case that was the issue

Another thing that bugs me about the EG3/4 ... I spent ages swapping tubes but the ones that sound best were the ones it came with (EH 12AT7 in v1 and EH 12ax7 in v2 .. no idea if this is stock or not)....I guess the thing that concerns me is when they die, anything else I replace 'em with won't sound as good

Thats close to how mine is setup, I just have a bit more mids in it. I love the JJECC83S in the EG5

I think I can see how you get away with so much Treble, am assuming the JJ ECC83s darken things up quite a bit...my EG5 is pretty bright sounding generally through my v30 cabs.

I'm playing two DARK cabs and a relatively dark power amp compared to my 2150.

Bad tone days. They are the most deflating experience for a musician. Second only to Bad-playing days. I have to confess that days like this have led me to sell ALOT of gear. I'm hoping the M4 I expect to receive in September puts an end to them. I've got a pair of CAA 1x12 cubes, a pair of Emi Governors, a VHT 2/50/2 and a bunch of Eggie modules sitting in boxes at home waiting for the M4. When that M4 gets to my house, I'm going to wait for the first Friday night and get some brews and just wire up my whole new rig.

The only bad tone days I have are when my playing just isnt there. Its pretty amazing actually how critical the hands are to great tone.
