Hi everybody.

I have the following strange problem with my Herbert:
If I play riffs and then mute the strings hard, there is uncontrolled feedback. Not the normal one you get, when your strings are unmuted. I placed a noisegate in the loop, but I like the sound much more without it.

Now I try to find out, if this comes from my pickups (Holy Diver and Painkiller) or the amp.

So heres my Question: How high do you set your Pickups?
I would like to have some numbers, not only "high" or "not so high".
Maybe without pressing a string and with pressed on 12th/24th fret.

Any others may also jump in, thanks for your help :)

at least the holy diver bridge model is very sensitive to feedback
try the noise in the front of the amp, in a very low setting

I had no problems with uncontrolled feedback with the Holy Diver in my ESP Horizon thru Herbert.

However, some guitars support feedback more than others (different resonance frequencies).

Any numbers?

3 mm space between strings and pickup are a uge difference to 8 mm, thats why I asked for it ;)

I set them at 2 mms or less when at 24th.

It's not your pickup.

I've heard people stuffing something under pickups or some place in the cavity that eliminates this or it could be a tube.

Wow, these are 2 completely different settings.
I will experiment and try out.

@Nbarts: where do you normally have your Gain and Volumes?

ch2- 12-3 gain, 12-1 volume
ch2+ 12-1 gain, 11-12 volume
ch3 8-9 gain, 12-1 volume
master usually around 11

You´ve got so play with the distance between strings and pickup. Take a screw driver and play, and then change it a little bit and see how it changes. You have to find your own sweet spot ;)

I was at our band room today and tried it out.
Seems to be that they were to high before - lowered them and now it works
They are now 3 - 4 mm away from the strings when at 24th fret.

If I set them as high as yours, nbarts, I get the feedback, but I think this is because I use more gain (around 14:00 till 14:30 at Channel 2+ )

I also noticed a HUGE difference with another cable. I have Cordial CGN 122 N Cables, because Peter Stapfer recommended them in an interview for diezel amps. These cable might be the reason why I always thought my Herbert would lack bite and treble...
Now I will buy a set of other ones. Do you like Cordial or Klotz better?
