I'm looking a high output hard rock/metal pick up. I'm basically looking for an EMG 81 in a passive pickup. What's the difference between these two pickups? Which would be better for my LP Custom?

Don't know about the Ironman but my BK Painkiller sounds killer. I heard the Warpig was great as well. The WCR shredders I had were too clean sounding if that makes sense....

What kind of guitar do you have it in and what amp ? What does or who does it sound like ? I was recommended the Painkiller by the people at Barreknuckles. I' curious as to what it sounds like.

Hamer Vector (Korina V) going into a Bradshaw Modded 2204 into an orange 4x12, sounds like the "painkiller" album, tons of low end but that may also be the Korina in the guitar but then again the stock pu's were duncan 59's and these are so much better there is now way to describe it! Very 80's metal sounding type of pickup, mids are just right and the top end is sweet but that thumping low end just kills.

Is Korina a heavy wood ?

Korina has a lower midrange and a lower low end then other woods. Why do you think Gibson charges 10K for their '59 reissue V.......

I should first say this isn't from personal experience, just lots of reading of others opinions/experiences, but if I were looking for an EMG 81 in passive I'd check out the BK Miracle Man. If I remember correctly many of the guys on the BK forum that are jumping ship from the 81 are going with the MM. It has the tightness since it's a ceramic but supposedly is a bit more "organic" than the 81, however not as organic as the alnico Warpig. From what I understand it's not as mid heavy as the 81 either.

^That's what I'm talking about. I want a more organic EMG81. A passive with real high output. The Warpigs sound like what I want.

I have a Miracle Man. It's very tight indeed... Reasonably high output, but it's been compared more to an EMG 85 then an 81. A note: cleans on my Mesa were horrific, very ice-pick, but really nice on my Diezel which has a bigger sounding clean channel. Great for playing metal.

It sounds like you might want an Alnico Warpig. They have a much higher output then the Miracle Man, and aren't quite as tight. They clean up and tap really well too. I'm considering the 7 string version or the 7 string Nailbomb for my next guitar.

Another option is to order a Warpig with a ceramic magnet. For high gain this is an absolute killer, and is a combination of the above p/ups.
