So im thinking about buying a new bridge humbucker for my 57RI Goldtop LP. I have a few choices in mind, one of them being the BKP Cold Sweat.

Anyone here using the Cold Sweat humbucker in an LP? If so, hows it sound? Comparable to any well known pickup tonewise? Also hows the output on them?

Cheers!

I tried one and then exchanged it for a VHII. It's all personal preference but I just though that Cold Sweat was just so stiff feeling, it had no give whatsoever.

How does the VHII sound and feel? What guitar do ya have it loaded into?

Also i should mention.. the other BK pickup i am considering, is the Rebel Yell Steve Stevens humbucker. If anyone has used that one too, lets hear your thoughts!

I had one in my Korina Hamer and found it a bit bright, but sounds really good. It's a lot like the Holy Diver I have right now (i'm selling it). I think the Bare Knuckle pickups are some of the best (no noise at all!). I just have to find one that sounds more to my liking (I don't like bright pickups).

I think the cold sweat bridge is a ceramic so that might something to do with the stiffness. However, seems like everyone at that Bareknuckle forum craps themselves over the cold sweat neck. Supposedly kills for cleans, leads, and splits nicely. But you're not looking for info on neck pickups

Got Cold Sweats in my 79 Dawson ;)
I love them, sound guy likes my Faded with Burstbuckers better says it cuts through better but it can be too harsh at times.
The BKP's are nice and warm, have bite but are smooth too, the neck pup is lovely, bags of sustain :D

If you don't like bright, forget about the VHII. I thought that one had a lot of highs and I like brightness! I remember there were some comparisons with other VH type PAF's somewhere, the Bareknuckle VHII sounded the least like VH. It's been quite a while since I played the BK's but I really was not impressed and gave up on the high cost and wait.

Hmm interesting!

My other option is to buy another Suhr Aldrich Humbucker for the LP. I have the Aldrich in my GMW and its the best pickup i have used. And its about £25 cheaper than the BK pickups..

See thats something i was wondering about.. I have not liked any Ceramic pickups i have used in the past, as they felt and sounded very stiff.. Im normally used to using either Alnico 2 or 5 magnet pickups, as they have just a little extra sag to them, and they feel + sound warmer!

BKP's .... great customer service , you can mail or ring Tim and discuss your rig, sounds you like, tone you want etc ... order a Cold Sweat ( or any pup) but extra or less winds etc, he gave me free aged covers with mine, you get a lifetime warranty, a free set of strings (nice touch) and a plec. If you don't like the pup send it back and he'll tweak if for ya ... free .... if you want your covers taken of ya pups .... send them back ... again free service.

Top class company !!! ;)

Aaaah, very good to know, thanks. I can cross them off the "to try" list then.

I've got a Nailbomb 7 in the bridge of my Carvin Dc727 and a ColdSweat in the neck and
they have transormed that guitar into a versatile shred machine.
The Nailbomb is warm, organic and open sounding as a bridge pickup. Great, Great lead pickup.
The ColdSweat is just the best neck pickup I've ever played.
It's like Tim took the best attributes a a Jazz and a 59 and blended them together and came out with the Coldsweat neck Pup.

I have a 57RI Dark Back and see no need to change the original PUs. But as we know our friends of GIBSON, the guitars may sound extremly different. The cold sweat wouldn't be my first choice in a LP. The idea with the Rebel Yell set makes more sens to me. High output on the bridge, meoderate output on the neck. An awesome set. BTW it is also installed in the guitar in the avatar... ;)

I was interested in the VHII for my Paul, but not if they are bright as don stated above. Right now I have a Rio Grande BBQ in there and it does sound pretty darn good, but you know, always chasing tone   . Right now my interest is around the Motor City Torque as the Egnator boys seem to have swapped BBQ's for those now.

That's interesting because I took out the BBQ from my new Charvel and sold it to Sgt. Thump and I'm replacing it with a Motor City, not a Torque though. I have a Duncan JB in there right now that I'll be replacing.
The next time you decide to sell something, let me know. I've seen about 12 things you've sold that I wanted to try now!!

SERIOUSLY!!!!!!

Especially the Stan Specs.

What didn't you like about the BBQ? I like it, but the bottom end is a tad loose. When I have my volume pot all the way up sometimes it is too much as well , just a hair too mushy, but I do like the sound slightly rolled off.

And yes, I want to try some Stan spec's too! HAHAHA!! And your Heritage speakers too :D

Do you want the JB J.B.?
  Nah, I like the JB, but not really looking for one. I want to try a BBQ and a few others. You allways seam to have cool stuff that I want though, so keep me in mind when you're selling something and save yourself the shipping hassle!

I've only played the BBQ in my friends Hamer Korina Explorer and it sounds really, REALLY good, but it definately isn't real tight. Loved everything else about it though. He does comment all the time about the "not so tight" lowend though.
