Anyone here using the Warpig? If so, what do you think of it?

I have been interested in the Alnico Warpig as I heard its got a big chunky tone but smooth top end. Sounds like it could be awesome in a superstrat..

Is there any other pickup out there that it sounds slightly similar to?

Cheers!
Dan

I have a ceramic set for sale... sorry for the spam... but they are awesome for superstrat guitars the can sound overly bright and brittle with something else... they have a huge but incredibly tight bottom end... a good mid hump but not honky at all... and a slightly rolled off top end to keep things from getting harsh...

... you should definitely know though, the Warpig is BKP's highest output humbucker by quite a bit...

Both of my 8 strings have ceramic warpigs. I think they're awesome. They're very hot, but they can still clean up pretty well. Especially if you coil tap em. As for other pickups that are similar, maybe the Seymour Duncan Invader.

Hey Dan, I have a ton of clips using an A5 Warpig in my LPC and a few with a Ceramic Warpig in my BRJ 7 string. Not a SS of course, but you get the idea. Awesome pickups. The A5 version in my LPC is my favorite pickup I have ever used.

Thanks for the info guys!

Jason : your clips are actually what got me interested in the Warpig :) I wonder if it would thicken up the tone of a Superstrat? I have one that's brighter sounding and I thought the Warpig could help to make it sound a bit fatter.

I had a ceramic one in a baritone LP copy and it sounded undefined. It has a huge roar for chords but once you start moving around too fast it sounds like mush.

I hear the Painkiller is best for this ^^^

Dan, Jason used it in the video that I shot, I got one coming in the mail as well for a super strat. Don't know if I'm going to use it for the Strat, or put it in a Les Paul Standard. After hearing one in person, I'm into giving it a shot. It was really tight, yet chuncky and warm. A5 Warpig. Tim, from BKP, recommend the Holydiver or Warpig A5 to me for a bright super strat (for heavier music). These two will help give bottom/ass to a bolt-on, trem-guitar. I wouldn't recommend a Painkiller for a super strat unless you have a dark sounding guitar, or one made of mahogany, limba, or such as.

For a refresher, this one is in a Les Paul Custom. Doesn't sound sloppy to me. Especially if you are using some kind of Cali ;)

Really? I don't have any issues with "mush" on the fast stuff. And I love fast stuff. Like Origin, Hate eternal fast stuff

that clip sounds great but it has the sound im talking about. the pickup is hyper aggressive and for me it was too much. it didn't sound bad, but it searing all the time, and i prefer something more subdued i guess. it got really annoying when playing decapitated-esque riffs, like i couldn't hear the notes through the distortion. but thats just my taste. its not the only pickup ive yanked for being too aggressive either.

c-pig and painkiller are the only bkps ive owned and sold em both. i would really like to check out the rebel yell nailbomb or holy diver though. i hear they are not as over the top but still very aggressive and clear.

i owned a ceramic warpig for a while and its nice if your using a really bright guitar, i didnt really care for it, i found it to have alot of output and the lows seemed tight which i loved, but it also had alot of lower mids and mine was kinda dark sounding, i used it in a couple guitars but ended up selling it.

I have a PK in one of my LPC and have done many clips with it. Extremely tight and very fast reaction to palm muted alternate picking/chugging. A tad bright though.

Here is the PK in action:

I use them. I'b been through allot of the BKP's, and this is where it ends for me. The lead feel and tone is awesome.. thick and juicy notes jump right at you. It can absolutely play 80's stuff aswell.. you probably have to att a bit of mid and top-end on your amp. The WP is a good foundation is the right guitar for allot of stuff.

Here's a small clip of my Gibson Custom LP with Alnico WP i just messed with tonight...

Just two guitars and some crappy programmed drums.
