Hello Bruce and all,

I'm a bassist that was in need of a low watt tube bass head and happened upon the Tweaker-40. I've had it a few days now and it does everything I hoped it would for me. I'm not sure how well it would keep up with a loud guitarist or a bashing drummer, but for my jams and home studio it's plenty loud...

So thanks for designing / building this amp :D

FYI: I have it matched to a Bag End D12 (2x12") cabinet and play 4, 5, 6, and 7 string basses... mostly active.

I have sometimes wondered whether Egnater will design a bass amp... ?

I'm thinking they already have

James - you're using a 40w bass amp
can it even be heard over your TV hehe.
I'm a bass player too.
Lowest watt bass amp I've played is 200w hehe

don't have a TV... so I'll have to answer yes to that one :D Seriously, this 40 watt tube head into my 2x12 cabinet is plenty loud to keep up with a non bashing drummer (just barely). If I was looking to jam with a band, the Tweaker-88 might have been a better call.

My last tube head had 4 pair of KT88 in it... completely and utterly useless for recording in a 12'x8' room. It was also overkill for any bar stage within a 60 mile radius. The Tweaker-40 completely suits my current needs

Markbass makes some nice stuff. I've played a few at the local GC in the past and could be happy gigging their stuff. My previous bass head and the one I made a living with in the 90s was an "Amplified Musical Products" BH-250 (sold my first one in the late 90s, tracked down another a few years back). It was the little brother to the BH-420 which the design was sold to Gibson when AMP closed shop and then sold to Thunderfunk when he was the contracted repair guy after Gibson discontinued the line. AMP was born out of the 70s Acoustic company and in it's wake spawned SWR.

Another reason the Egnator is working so good for me is I mainly play a 7 string bass with super light strings and I'm mostly stuck on the tones of John Wetton, Chris Squire, and the rest of the 70s prog scene :)

ok - a 7 stringer will make it more suitable for a guitar amp for sure.
Do you find the Tweaker has enuf EQ variations for your bass though

Switched to modern and deep seems best... surprising to me, the AC setting is where I'm using it the most. I've found quite a few usable tones.
