This is rad. Going from 25K to 50K mid pot makes the tone stack flat at 5/5/5. Much easier to dial in. Low volume? 10/5/10 for Fletcher-Munsen loudness.

Van Halen? 10/10/10.

Modern rock? 7/2/2.

Most useful mod I’ve seen in a long time.

It still changes the mix though. The bass pot reacts differently now.
True. Bruce voiced the MOFO gain channel with a 50's esquire tele; had a weak A2 tele bridge pup. WAY more useful bass knob for my purposes with drop C# and a mid output A5 humbucker.

You done this mod? What was your experience?

The magic plexi #12301 had a mid pot that measured close to 50k.
Just sayin'.....

Yep. Pete Thorn and Dave demonstrated the value of the switch in that epic VH tone video they did on YouTube:

The TMB tonestack is flat with bass at 5, treble at 5, and the mid at 10 with a 25K. Swap in a 50K, and it's 5/5/5. WAY more useful and the treble doesn't "crash" when you dime it. Wicked sick!

I just experimented with this in my latest Superlead build and I agree with psychodave that the Bass control sweep is compromised. The bass control is already a bit too subtle and this just makes it worse. I ended up with something like 32k-33k. I agree with the premise I just thought 50k was too much for my particular amp. In another amp for another person it might be perfect.

There is a similar thing at the other end. Marshalls had 470pF Treble cap up to 560pF. Sometimes at 560pF, when you turn down the Treble it really starts sucking out some upper mids that you wanted to keep. But it varies amp to amp, I like 560pF there in some amps.

.022 cap on mid and bass?

My bass control was WAY too hard, increasing the mid pot value loosened it up a bit.

Yes, stock value. There is always that big ON/OFF ramp that occurs somewhere around 3 or so on the Bass control but these things vary. In my Superbass I reused an old Marshall pot for Bass that measured 666k. Since I often run the Bass on 0 in a Superbass I had to use it. My SL has a new CTS 1M tho.
