Recently got a BE100 and I'm getting great tone pretty much regardless of settings. Currently happy with everything except master set about 1:00. The master volume seems to work great as I'm able to run it at lower volume without sacrificing tone.

I know it's a matter of "use your ears", but I'm going to be doing some recording soon and wondering if you guys have a sweet spot for the MV setting? Do you crank it up or leave it around 9:00 - 10:00?

So as in 1 o'clock. what is it your not happy with?

No, I'm happy with everything. I probably worded it poorly, but I meant I have the Presence, B-M-T, and Gain all set to 1:00 and I'm loving the sound. The MV I usually set around 9:00 for basement noodling and it sounds great. I think 1:00 on the Master would wake the neighbors.

My question was more in reference to hitting that sweet spot on the MV and the interaction between Gain and Master Volume. I'll be doing a recording session soon and wanted to see where others typically like MV set.

Well it sounds good everywhere but up around 11 o'clock is cool

For recording, once you miked the amp, listen more to how the speakers react to volume and try to get the sweet spot that way.
Also, that will determine how hard you're hitting the mic and how the particular mic reacts to the volume as well.
When you're listening through the monitors with a consistent control room level, you'll be able to hear those differences better then standing in front of the amp where your ears are reacting to high volume and having much more of an effect on perceived sound then anything else.
MV on the BE works great across the range and the whole "power amp distortion" thing really won't have much effect on the sound unless you're diming it.

Also all depends on if you have the Loop engaged. If the loops on you can set the front Master around 12-3:00 and use the effects Return Level knob on back as your main master volume. Even without effect, it's how I can get cranked sounding tones without blasting the neighborhood. First night with the BE, I didn't know this and did have the neighbors come over at 3am. No more of that with the Loop master.

Cool, thanks for the tips guys. I didn't know you could control the volume with the effects return level.

Yep. In between preamp and power section. Input signal adjusted with FX trimmer, output through return level so it adjusts amount of signal to the Phase Inverter and Power Section = Master Volume!

I agree. Using the loop pot on the back as the master volume does help. However, the clean volume on the front
has to be turned up nearly all the way to equalize the two volumes. (clean vs. overdrive) For me, it creates more
amp "noise" (hiss) in either channel. I've emailed Dave about the hiss and Power transformer hum in my amp. I have
an older version. Anyone else experiencing excessive noise from their amp? I'm plugging straight in with no effects.
I've jumpered the loop in the back to work the back pot as a master.
Have also run directly into the front using only the front controls. (FX loop off) Still a lot of hiss. Changed preamp tubes
which helped a little. I've heard that some turn the gain up all the way in the BE channel. Way, way too much hiss for me.
I also am using a Mogami cable to my Les Paul.

I personally do not think it has a low noise floor not as bad as a jvm but certainly much noiser than a mesa mark series. At least in hbe mode. I think most demos you have heard online have a gate in the loop.

....just as any design, dave made changes along the way. one of them being the fx loop values to decrease the input resistor n increase signal n noise floor along with this adjusting the output or return. this might help also n maybe dave will chime in with suggestions.

Simple send me the amp for upgrade. I will check it out fully.
