Beater Cars for MPG

Anyone else had to do this. I bought a 07 Yaris gets 38mpg and the AC works. Thanks Joe for making me drive this teenage girls car.
 
Old VWs could often break 40mpgs. CRX, any HF model Honda, Geo Metros. My beater gets about 60mpg when I'm playing nicely and hits 60mph in about 3 seconds when I'm not. It's possible to have the best of both worlds:

Been a master auto tech for over 20 years. All I drive are cheap beaters. Cars are a massive waste of cash unless they're vintage.
