Hello,

I am the proud owner of a VH4 hooked-up to a Mesa 4x12. I had a Mesa head before - which was also good - but this one really creams it. Anyway, I often jam and/or write songs, find tones etc... I'd really like to be able to do all that at a casual level without without fearing of being evicted by my landlord; but also not having to fiddle with the amp settings when I do a gig.

So my questions: Do you have any recommendation in terms of "Attenuator" that are good and will not alter the signature sound of Diezel? I have no price limit.

Regards, Dan.

Hi Dan there is a new product that is out i actually just bought one it is made by a company called two notes engineering. It is called the torpedo and it is a awesome piece of equipment. you hook your amp to it with out a speaker. the torpedo takes the load from your amp and emulates a speaker cab with a mic in front of it. so far i have used it in recording and jamming threw my bands jam hub works great . just talk to andy cherna at diffusion audio and he is also a diezel distributor for canada. here is the web link http://www.diffusion-audio.com/. plus there is a very cool video about the torpedo on the website. if you phone andy to order tell him darren set you :D

I have a Hotplate, but it does alter tone.

Actually don't know why I still have it, as I never even use it.

Peter does not recommend Attenuator's with Diezel amps.. You have the wrong amp for low volume playing. It will work and sound good, but the VH4 wants to be cranked!
The Einstein is a much better low volume amp.. i.m.o..

Thanks all for the replies.

The Two Tone product is really interesting - I think I going to grab one. I wonder if people are recording the output of that one during live situations, then take their time to mix it down properly in their studio. I'm sure it would sound different, but then again, a live on CD is not the same as a live in the pit.

I understand the Peter doesn't recommend attenuator, especially given how the power tubes may go - but I just have to. My intention is not to get the best out of the Deizel at reduced volume, simply to practice. This weekend I picked-up a weber mass 200. I'll see how far I get with it.

Again thank you for your posts.
Regaerds, Dan.

Hey! From what I've read (not tested in person.. yet!), you might want to look into the Ultimate Attenuator. Just look it up on Google; you'll get plenty of hits. It's supposed to be the best out there... goes for around $349,-.

I have to second that...I play my VH4 also at low volumes and it sounds great!

Faustine Phantom is the way to go - guess it's the best out there. UA does reamping, can be nice if that is your cup of tea.

I play my vh4 at low volume all the time. Sounds fine.

I do too. But the VH4 REALLY comes to life when you crank it..
