Looks better in person, not by much.

It had a few shiny spots from rubbing on the packaging during shipment, I had to sand down. Flat finish, so I may get motivated to stain it another color.

I don't think that looks bad at all ..... better than the promo pics you posted before .... looks helluva comfortable to play
just not into brown guitars, dark brown bursts; it's more amber, and if I use purple stain over it, it's likely to turn more brown; red stain would likely look orange...

I think if I take the flat clear off with sanding, maybe staining the top in purple would result in a purple burst, or make the brown even worse. Getting the existing lighter colors out of the wood won't be easy...

More I think about it, the more I'd like to stain it another color, but the probability of making even uglier is too high.

Looks great to me. Not a P-Bass but you got Bartolini pickups in that puppy? Nice.

I'm liking this talk about purple stains and dyes.....

I like the finish.

I LOVE the fretboard.
The fretboard is nice; one light spot, but it's dark brown with fine black wood grain lines. the light part on the body top is actually more amber than brown in person, I like the amber, it's growing on me; and I don't mind the dark brown edges or back.

just concerned it will turn an even uglier shade of brown. I suppose if that happens, I can stain it black :D
You could always just scuff it, maybe shoot some primer, and then paint it purple. You're gonna have to mask it off anyways. Just spend hte dough and get some high quality 3-M vinyl automotive detailing tape. The blue stuff. Take your time and follow the lines and it would probably come out acceptable as long as you don't build too thick of coats.

Is that board Wenge?

I like the matte/flat stain look and feel, why I was thinking a purple stain, to make it a purple burst.

looks like it, but it's panga panga fretboard; neck is 5pc maple walnut neck-thru, body wings are Okoume

I'm a gloss guy myself. The staining to get purple sounds like a crapshoot. Might be real tricky but it is kind of a shit brown burst. I don't think it's bad, you think it's ugly so how bad can you make it? If it doesn't come out it'll just still be an ugly bass, lol. How she plays is what counts!!!

Love the five piece neck. I am a big fan of proper multi piece necks. Stability in a neck is great.

yes, I usually like gloss colors for my guitars and basses; but the flat look and feel on this is nice, different...if they did a purple burst or blue burst stain with flat I'd like it much more.

the newer fretless SR model is gloss red / brown burst which I like, but it's a bolt-on neck, and the board has top fret lines and inlays which throw me off on fretless. I only want side dots;

unfortunately the bass I have has side fret lines which are tough to ignore as they're the same color as the side dots:

Does this mean you are going to be playing some shitty basslines with this new guitar??????????:hys:

If I didn't remark on the lowest hanging fruit of comedy here you would be disappointed in me now wouldn't you!:lame::yes:\:D/

Congrats on your new bass!:2thumbsup: It's still a good looking guitar even if you don't like the color. I started playing bass on a tobacco burst Washburn bass many moons ago so the color if not as revolting to me as it is you.
