I would like some opinions on cabinets. I just bought a Peavey JSX head and need a cab. I'm looking for a 4x12 that is versitle to play 60's stuff to present; for under $800. Playing a Epi LP standard with SD Custom Bridge and DM PAF neck PU's and an Agile Baritone with EMG's tuned B-B. I also use a G Major in the effects loop. I hate to get a cabinet online when all the reviews are good and it sounds terrible through my setup. What are my options? Right now I'm considering the Peavey JSX cabinet.

Thanks

My vote would be an Avatar G412 Vintage loaded with Celestion Heritage speaker (the $200 each kind). I'd think you be right at $800. Those speakers are AMAZING! Other cabs to consider would be Hughes & Kettner Custom Class cabs, Bogner cabs, and Marshall Mode Four MF280 cabs (no I am not kidding about this one).

If you tune down low and like tight bass and higher gain, I wouldn't go with the Heritage M's. I think the H's would work better. I've tried all the higher priced celestion heritage speakers and to be honest, I like the plain old Reissue G12H30's better. I would buy a MOJO 4x12 and load the speakers yourself. Get a quad of speakers from Avatar, I like how he breaks in the Celstion G12H30's, the Hellatones.

+1. I loaded a Splawn 4x12 with the Hellatone30's and I'm always blown away by it. I also have a Splawn 4x12 loaded with English Greenbacks...it doesn't hold the low end together as well as the H30's. I like both cabs, but for different reasons/apps...which is why I run them together.

Maybe a smart choice would be the cabinet that was designed for the head. There is no "best" 4x12 otherwise.

I've played the Avatar 4X12 and they are really nice. Quality-wise they are on par with Mesa from what I have seen, can't say on the Bogners as I havent played any. I do like my G-Flex for the most part, and I thought it sounded really nice with my XXX when I had it, so maybe check those out. The bass is weird on 'em (gflex) though, so play one first.

I'm gonna have to plug the Avatar Vintage 4x12 one more time. When I demo'ed my amp I played it through the Mesa Standard and Recto cabs, and I think that the Avatar is as good if not better. Especially for the price, you can't beat them. Oh yea, they have great customer service too! (IDK if this happens all the time, but mine was at my door 4 days after I ordered)

Mesa Standard = Mesa Recto. There's the Mesa Traditional (now called Stiletto), Mesa Oversized Recto (aka Standard), Lonestar, and Roadking.

Ah I knew I didn't have them right. Thank you for the correction.
