I know, I know... what the fuck is a clean channel again? Seriously though, I think alnico speakers, EVM 12Ls, ect would be a perfect speaker choice here, but what cabs produce some of the best clean tones for recording the Fenders, Vox's, dumbles, ect...

Would it be 2x12 cabs, 4x12's... maybe just a single 1x12? If so, what brands make the best dimensions or produce some of the best clean tones with your amps? I am very interested... my thoughts of serious contenders are a Port City 2x12, but would a 2x12 OS be any better than the regular 2x12? I dont think of OS cabs being any better, but what the hell do I know anyways, right? I am the one asking the question, so I know jack shit!!! I would love to know what some of you guys have to get that great clean tone with mild breakup!!!

Thanks, Chad

Go somewhere that has a Matchless 2x12 with the mismatched speakers. It is a greenie and a heritage maybe? Anyway, there is something special about that cab. Even a Matchless amp does not sound right without that cab. It is part of the magic. A guy sold me a beat to shit looking one and it is what I use for my Dr Z to 5153 for non-blasting loud metal.

I was able to play a port city OS, Own an Egnater OS 2x12, Marshall 2x12, played Splawn 2x12. For that getting power tube breakup and class A amp grit, that cab is king.

You just have to play one in person. Hard to find used. On paper it does not seem unique. It is me of those things that you gotta play and feel the mojo. There is a reason Matchless is super popular for that type of tone.

My favorite is a thiele cab with the evm12l speaker but a close second is a 1x12 open back with a k100. I know the k100 is normally targeted as a 'metal' speaker but it has killer cleans as well.

Nice layout!! Your pad??

That's the "cabinet for clean tones" with the "kitchen sink mode".

2x12 open oval back. Like Two Rock/Dumble style. Hard Trucker and A Brown Soun come to mind too but I like Two Rock myself.

Got lots of those, not really "airy" enough for my taste as a Clean cab. But the best closed back - but I use an EVM SRO in it for that. :)

Good to know! I have a FL Diezel 4x12... I might have to rip 2 of those speakers out to give them a try in a 2x12! Thanks!

Interesting... I never thought much about using a 1x15 or 1x10 now that you mention it. I will have to wait to get back to the states before I go crazy on trying to find exactly what I want, but man I think I have a great set of Sugarcones that are waiting to find the right home for sure, I remember everyone raving about those speakers and Im stoked to try them out!!!

Tcrash has a good cab for sale. Dr Z, Z Best cab. Good pushed breakup cab. It was on my shoe list when getting the Matchless.

Damn, I cant find anything about buying one of those... does he have a site where he sells them online?
