Best EQ for rack?

I recently decided to go back to using a rack system. My rig will consist of: Soldano preamp, ADA STD-1, TC Electronic 2290, and a 2 space Rocktron Velocity 300. I was thinking about using a Rocktron Pro-Q, but I'm curious if there's a better EQ out there? The Pro-Q is cool because it's MIDI switchable with tons of other options... Is this the best choice for a rack EQ - or should I just not use one?

A lot of people like the TC Electronic 1128 Digital Graphic Equalizer / Spectrum Analyzer

Thanks!

the older Aphex Tube Parametric EQ is pretty good. I've been using mine for quite a while now and it never gave me any problems. It only has two bands per channel but the two channels can be run together for a 4-band mono operation. I will also recommend the older Aphex exciter as another alternative but I only use that for getting a heavy sound out of pretty much any amp/preamp.

I could recommend you the TC Electronic 1140 Parametric EQ. Great unit! I also heard great things about the Audioarts 4100B

^^^^^This. I have one and it's awesome, and also MIDI-controllable.

Also, the Digitech MEQ14 is a great MIDI unit if you can find one for sale. If you already have a ProQ though, I'd stick with that--awesome gear.

I'm definitely going for the TC 1128. :)

I see them go dirt cheap sometimes .... like just over $100. If I ever get around to rebuilding my rack I might get one myself.

Billy Gibbons uses one to maker all of his guitars sound like his favorite LP..... I thought this was a cool application.

Thank God Pete Thorn doesn't use one... The price would jump to $1900.00

I like the Furman PEQ3,but I use it pre distortion, but it looks like you're looking to eq the output of your Soldano preamp? Having the ability to change eq through MIDI sound like a cool thing to have!

Exactly. I want to keep character of my gain tone intact and also have the option of changing the voicing via a MIDI switchable EQ. I use to have a Pro-Q, but foolishly I sold it... :aww:

Thumbs up for the Rocktron. Eq in the effects loop is probably my most used 'effect' as it really let's you sculpt the response.

Incidentally, I know this is off topic, but, I use a Soldano SP77 and run it into a Peavey Classic 50/50 (el84's) and it sounds awesome. a tube power amp might be worth a try. Mesa also makes a mean power amp in the simul 2:90. I'm thinking that the velocity might not meet the fullest potential of your rig.

I forget which, it's been a while--but there's a blue screen and a green screen version and one of the two had issues w/ the display. Perhaps one of the guys will be able to clarify

Yes! My first rack rig was an SP-77, Pro-Q, Intellifex, and the 2 space Velocity 300 power amp. I had a Peavey 50/50, but sold it. I don't know what it is, but the Velocity seems to work best for me. It has a way of cleaning-up the signal that I really like. I may get another 50/50.

I have an Alto Q 5-band parametric equaliser that works well for this.
