Best F/X for Herbert

Normally I steer clear of F/X because they tend to suck way too much tone. I used a muti f/x rack years ago, but of recent years I've been running dry tone. After owning my Herbert for some time I've come to realize that it's loops are exceptional and capable of running f/x with no noticable degrading in tone. Now I've recently bought a T-Rex replica delay, which is excellent. So I'm looking around for a Reverb and Chorus. What do you guys like? What other f/x work well with your Diezel? I want true bypass, and good quality, I don't care how much it costs.

if you need analog pedals i'd say the Choral Flange by fulltone or the Red Witch Empress chorus.

don't know for reverb.

Boss BF2 Flanger and Boss DD3 Delay right in front. Went the high end and high $$ route, but they are in the closet along with the G major or minor, whichever it is collecting dust. I find you lose a little bit of oomph through the FX loop, which is true with most amps.

I am no help with my G-Force.....but it does sound good :D

I agree. I just got a G-Force a few weeks ago and love it. Been using it with the Herbert, but now I want one for my VH4 too.

The T-Rex is a great pedal. I played one through my Herbert once and thought it sounded great. Had you not already had that, I would have suggested the Eventide pedals otherwise. I have the Eventide time factor and I can get pretty good chorus and reverbs out of it as well as a great delay. Plus it is MIDI controllable.

I also really like the TC Electronic Nova pedals - they aren't true by-pass but they are very transparent and you wouldn't know the difference. I've owned them all - still have the Nova Reverb, but I'm selling it since I got the G-Force. It sounds great with the Herbert.

How's the Gmajor does it color the sound much? I think I can get one around here for cheap.

Reverb: Digiverb (but looking at the Hardwire)
Chorus: Redwitch Empress (incredible!)
Delays : Maxon AD999 and MXR CC
Phaser: Maxon PH350
Wah: RMC3 in front of Herbert and VH4

No tone suck with these at all, and no Axess BS2 either!

im pretty happy with my live setup, with g system. but in the studio i record completely dry all effects done post.

I have both, the G-Major and the G-Force. Both are virtually transparent in the serial loop. The routing is awesome and the effects are the bomb on both units.

I'd start with the G-Major unless you need both fixed and intelligent harmonization and more than 100 user bank presets with a few more bells and whistles, but the quality of the conventional effects are in effect the same. You'll be paying about 1K more for the G-Force as apposed to the G-Major unless you find one used or a great deal.

Check out this vid for a quick demo of the G-Major.

Thanks for the feedback guys, now I need to read up on some of these suggestions. As far as the rack systems go I'm not sure on them. I've got a Lexicon PCM81 sitting here which I've tried on and off, as well as comparing directly to the T-Rex. To my ears the T-Rex is as close as tranparent as you can get, I just can't tell the difference if it's in or out of my chain, I love this pedal, not to metion it's got tap tempo. Now the Lexicon is another story. As good as the quality of sound is, I can easily hear the difference when it's in my chain, and I don't like the digital stiffness that it ads.
*Andy I know you use the G-Force and I realy dig your sound. What f/x do you like/use from it? Any info would help.
*Eddyrox, I use a RMC Wizard wah and that is totally transparent too.
I'm realy looking for other f/x of this calibre.

i use g system not g force, with that said which tone of mine do you enjoy? the lead tone? if so i use only one effect, the tape delay.
the rest is pure diezel power :D

hey andy besides delay, what other fx do you use?

and why the gsystem if you only use delay ?

i use the g system for all of the switching options. i have 3 pedals in a pedal drawer that i use in fron of a herbert, a barber tone press for compression, a fulltone ocd i use on ch 1 for that pink floyd type of drive, and an evh phase 90 just because eddie is the king :D within my DFU set i set the show up in order of the setlist in the g system. the cleans raange from clean with delay and verb and tone press, to all of that with some modulations. my rythem tone is always ch 2+ completely dry. i use an AM radio type of setting i created for some cool filter stuff, my lead tone as described above. i "chopper" effect that is an extreme tremolo, my pink floyd type tone which is ch1 with a very conservative boos from ocd, with delay verb. i use all kinds of defferernt delays but my favorite is the tape delay. i actually run through the effects pretty hard live throughout the set, but i was betting he probably enjoyed the lead tone thats why i addressed it. the biggest reason for me to use g system is i get great tc effects plus a fantastic switcher all in one, with zero latency between patch channels. and if im in a certain patch and just want to add or take away a certain effect on the fly its really easy to do so.

hope this helps

Well, I can only talk about my experience but... for me... the very best effect unit out there is the Fractal Axe-Fx. I have the Ultra and I simply love it... it's absolutely amazing with the Herbert.

I know there are some other good units but I personally don't think they are the same level of the Axe-fx...

Have look at the Rocktron Xpression...much clearer than the G-Major imo.

Absolutely. I A/B'd both with my amp and my 4x12 and the difference - imo - was immense.

To Diezel&Gas and Eddyrox. Is there any tone degeneration with the Red Witch. If there is I'd sell it in a minute!
