I know it seems like sacrilege to have an M4 with 8 channels at my toes, but I do have my fuzz boxes (two Muffs, Soulbender clone & maybe a FF clone) to consider. Also might be using a MI Audio Tube Zone clone for high-gain/smooth fusion sounds. If/when the E2 ever comes out, I'd look at the EG3/4 for that, but in the meantime.....
I tried three different pedals in front of the M4 (Zendrive clone, GGG-tuned Big Muff, Carl Martin AC-Tone). I used the T/T module since I've typically used Fender amps for clean and all of my dirt was from stompboxes. That gave me the best results out of all of my mods (T/T, SL2X, VX, EG5), but was still WAY too bright. Funny thing is, my T/T isn't set for that much treble; the stompboxes were over the top, though.
Just for kicks I tried the SL2X (set to lower gain on Ch A) and the VX Ch A. Not only were they very thin/bright-sounding, they had very little volume.
Is it a lost cause trying to use dirt pedals for other than simply boosting an existing channel?
