I know they aren't THAT pricey, but I think there has to be something for less than 100 bucks (used) that works well.

BOSS?
Rocktron Hush?
MXR (the older line driver / noise gate) ?

NS2........love mine, always keep one on hand. great pedals.

+1, the NS-2 works fine!

+2 Had an NS-2 for a while, worked awesome, then let a buddy use it and haven't seen it since!

Rocktron's Hush "The Pedal" (at least the single channel version) was fucking terrible. It just generated white noise and took all the bite out of the guitar tone. I also had a rackmounted Rocktron Hush IICX and I thought that also sucked a bit of tone (not as bad as the pedal though).

The NS-2 does work fine, but the ISP is signifigantly better IMO.

what about isp's gated pedal? i tried the hush c and the ns-2 and i love the isp noise gate pedal way more than those other two. the ns-2 isn't bad though, i just didn't like how much sustain it cut off.

Man... Don't be cheap. Buy the ISP. Hell, get the rackmount if you can. Worth every single penny and some more.

I don't have noise issues at all now though so I sold it.

What you need a noise gate for?

t.to.to eliminate noise (i.e. unwanted hiss and hum)

and I know i know "don;t be cheap buy the decimator"

fact is, I'm cheap

Keep that in mind when recommending stuff to me

I also should mention the Rocktron Guitar Silencer rack unit. Fuckin awesome unit and i have used it in my rack for a few years now, i believe a lot of guys rate it as the next best thing to the ISP!

I have the Rocktron Hush The Pedal, 2 channel version. It was OK, but like others have said, I found that it did suck some tone from my amp (what little it does have). Then I got my G Major. The noise gate in there is pretty decent, but ended up getting the ISP Decimator Pedal. Sounds a lot better than the Rocktron Hush. It was only 129 and worth every penny for a pedal. I still want the ProRackG; better clean channel tracking.

There are a lot of people that will never own a gate because the "should not be needed." With my Crate being an inherently noisy amp and owning some noisy gear, a gate is very nice to have to help quiet down between songs. Not to mention that some of the electrical systems in some of the dives we play in can introduce noise that you just can't get rid of unless you have a nice (read: pricey) power conditioner. So, in all, I guess I'm trying to say that I will never feel bad about using a noise gate.
