Threw up a best "cheap" guitar thread so let's find out who the scroungers are here.
Rules are honest Pawn Shop or Thrift Store finds ONLY NO Ebay or Craig list deals in this one!
I have 2 I currently own.
First off a near mint 2007 PRS Custom 24 in the case with all the case candy for $800 OTD.

Second is my 1990 Peavey Generation S-1 again in the hard shell with all the case candy for $150 OTD.

What ya got??

Nice scores. Sorry to say I haven't had any great pawn shop finds.

My uncle used to have a pawn shop in Memphis.

I got a Fender Twin
Black line Ampeg SVT
old Sunn combo
Electra bass

Assorted guns.

Jewelry.

I've only bought one guitar in a pawn shop (in Memphis), and it was a 1983 les paul studio with a natural finish. I had never seen another like it and got it for $500. Wish I still had it actually...

Wow so few Pawn shop finds here?? Over the years I have snagged SO much stuff for peanuts out of Pawn shops it's amazing.
Examples a REALLY nice intact 1965 Blackface Super Reverb for $250, Washburn USA MG 100 for $175, Washburn SS40 $75, Martin dreadnought $175, Carvin DC 400 $350, Peavey Ultra + head $75 and the list goes on and on!
Got to be more here that snag stuff like I do regularly at Pawn Shops so??

My only real deals were a partscaster with a Warmoth neck and Duncan pickups for $80. It had no logo on it, so they had no idea what it was. I also snagged a vintage Jazzmaster hardcase for $30.

The Pawn Shops in the Twin Cities rely on the Internet and often list well used Squires etc well above what you can go down the street and buy them for new. So I have never seen a deal in abut 10 years of checking although I look several times a year.

I can't take credit for this one, but back in the day (early 90s), a bud of mine purchased a stripped (finish) 64 strat... with all else on the guitar original. Since the body was stripped down the the bare wood, he had a nitro refin put on it by the Apprentice Shop in Franklin, TN (no longer there as the owner relocated out to Arizona). Absolutely a killer!

I don't think people really get deals at pawnshops anymore given that all an owner has to do is search ebay sold listings..

This wasn't a deal, but I spent a long time looking for the natural finish Ibanez SZ on the left, and eventually found one in a pawn shop, so it was a cool find for me.

custom shop charvel for 600 bucks!! my buddy told me about a pawn shop in san fran that had some decent guitars and I went and looked and got the charvel. I had just enough for the charvel, there was also a killer les paul standard, a nice red color, for 950!!

I do regularly on both guns and musical stuff so??
Like this $300 Carvin DC 400.

And this $400 S&W 1066 10mm.

Most pawnshop finds, I flip because typically I'm not all that interested in them. When I flip them I try and leave some meat on the bone for the buyer.

Takamine C132S for $125 - gave to my dad
Takamine G330 (lawsuit era) $60 - flipped it for $175
Fender Esquire MiM tele $250 - still on layaway but will give to dad
Danelectro U1 MiK $65 - on loan to a kid that wanted to learn
Danelectro (the one with all the built in effects, cant remember the name of it) $100 flipped it for $190
50's Supro lap steel - $100 - flipped for $250
Ibanez Artcore - $100 + I had to replace the input jack - flipped it for $225
Dozens of $50 Squiers - I was parting them out on eBay and making pretty decent bank. Too busy to do it anymore.
Lots of Boss/EHX/MXR pedals come and go...

Recently I turned down a $80 Martin Uke because there was something off about it not to mention there wasnt any sort of a model number or serial number on it. I am either a genius or a complete idiot.

Those are the ones that come to mind.

Dad has had some good luck as well, one that comes to my mind is a $100 MiM Fender Nashville Deluxe tele because it 'didnt work'. It had Actives so a $2 9v battery and all was good!

All the Deans you see here wher bought in pawn shops in the early nineties. These are all oldies from 79 to 81. I paid no more than $400 for them, one I traded for Boss pedals and a Peavey Bandit. I now have a bunch more that I also aquired in pawn shops but I did not take pics of them. I called a hell of a lot of shops back then as there was no internet. It was a bell of challenge to find them.

I worked in a pawn shop a few years back so my employee discount was 15% above what the store gave for the item.
5150 head--$250
Charvel Model 5 with case-$135
Gibson SG Special-$300

Wow, those are good finds, but the pawn shops in my area have been eaten up by 2 chain stores and they run it like a corporation. I'd take a road trip /vacation if I knew where to find some decent shops.

A friend of mine got a mesa boogie tremoverb head about 7 years ago for $500 when boogie was still the top amp to have. He scored like crazy.

Recently I picked up a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Rackmount Rev F and a marshall JCM800 Cab for $850 off Craiglist, had to drive a bit and spent $50 in gas, but well worth it considering the head alone sells for about $1400

Picked up a JCM800 2203 unknown mods done to it for $350 from a local Pawn shop. Sold it for over a grand.
