Best preamp tube for v1&2.

Ok, I have exchanged the preamp tubes in my einstein for all jj's...Im going to lead tone, full smooth lead tone...Should I put something else in v1 or v2? Should I put the shuagang back in?( Im away from my amp at the moment).

also, can I substitute a 12at7 in v1 or v2 to lower the gain a bit?

Everyone has their own idea about what tones they desire in their setup.
While Peter put some great sounding tubes into my Einstein combo, ultimately I switched out V-1 and V-2 for NOS Mullard 12AT7's to calm it down just a tad. They have a different tone then the chinese tubes have and a different breakup.

I left all other tubes alone, and have been using my Einstein for over three years now without replacing any tubes.

I've never liked JJs in V1. At the moment I think I have a GT 12AX7M in there but a Svetlana/SED 12AX7 is good too. It's really just a try it to see if you like it thing.
