Best RECORDING amp

Hi.

Im real excited , I am weeks away from ordering a diezel amp. I have narrowed it down to the VH4 or the Herbert. Unfortunately where I live I do not have a chance to AB them side by side. With that said, based soley on talking to MANY users, I am leaning toward the Herbert for tone and versatility (I play more than just metal and clean - brown and heavy are all important to me)

SO there is one thing I question.... this amp is and will be a RECORDING amp for me, I doubt I will ever take it on the road, or even rehearse with it for that matter.

Sometimes in recording the low end 'freeness' and the scooped mids that the herbert is so famous for can be a bad thing or contribute to the guitar getting buried in the mix ....The tightness and compression that im hearing about the VH4 is often more desirable...

So please anyone who has recorded with these amps - chime in....Not for bedroom or stage playing but soley for recording is there a winner. Seems like BH4s show up in more records...is there a reason?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know about best recording amp, but what I do know is that the myth about Herbert having scooped mids is a bullshit.

I agree. Both record pretty well actually.
VH4 is older that's why it appears on more records.

Everytime I play a VH4 it makes me like my Herbert better. Both are great.

I feel the same way. I like the VH4 no doubt, but i like Herbie´s sound range more.

...and you have some credits behind to make this a solid opinion, James :) Both are great which is how it really is.

I would add Einstein to the bunch. It records great as well.
