I'm thinking of trying different tubes in my MOD50 and would like to try to bias it myself as running to the local repair shop is going to get pricey - what kind/brand etc is anyone using? How hard is this to do?

Thanks

Very easy. Just go to sears or radio shack and get a digital multimeter.

Dude, it's cake man. Listen to Matt, get the multimeter and get back to us. We'll tell you exactly what to do. Should take you less than 5 minutes and that's the first time doing it!! Probably takes most of us around 2 minutes or so. That's another reason I love Bruce's amps...........makes it so easy to swap power tubes.

I also think the manual has easy step by step instructions as well, so you can refer to that too.

Thanks! Will pick one up today and get back - definitely need some starting pointers.

Read the manual.... it tells you everything you need to know.

I'm thinking of going to EL34's - I think I'd like more of the Marshall edge (?). I've seen the concerns here. I really like EL84's in my PV 50/50 - M4 setup. Arent they the little brother to EL34's kinda? Either way, not a fan of the stock power tubes. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

If you really want a kick ass set that will do well with the Marshall and Fender type stuff, the Tung Sol 6550's are amazing. My fave's so far as well as several other guys on here.

This and be done :D

Any thoughts on Yellow Jackets with EL84s? Since I really like my PV 50/50 M4 setup...
Would I have to re-bias them also?

Someone on here really loves those. I have not tried them, but I bet they'd be killer.

You have to bias for any and all power tube swaps.........UNLESS you get the same like rated/number tube from like Groove Tubes, but I check it EVERY time regardless. It only takes a minute, so it's better to be safe.
