Hey guys, I know that its recommended to bias the VH4 between 60-67 ma/pair but I biased mine to 60 ma. Am I really gonna hear a big difference than if I biased it to 65ma?

I read that if you bias it lower than higher the tubes will last longer too.

Just wondering what everyone thinks.

The longevity of tubes, you never know about. But, common sense says tubes not throwing off as much power would, in general, last longer.

30mA with 480PV is about right anyway. You won't notice much, if any difference at all. But, in general, a lower bias will decrease headroom and cause the tube to break up a little sooner. You got to let your ears decide though on what sounds best. The VH4 needs a bit of head room to growl. There's plenty of gain on tap already. Depends on the volume you mostly play at as well. If you can open it up, you can better tell the difference in bias trim.

30mA usually ends up @ 55-60% max dissipation of an EL-34. Thats the best range for this amp
