Hey Crew,

I have a LP Custom inbound and want to swap out the PUP's. I have watched a lot of clips on BKP PUP's and have been quite impressed with the nailbomb's. Anyone have them in their guitar running into the VH4 or any other Diezel for that matter? With that said, if you all have any recommendations for PUP's I am all ears. Thanks in advance for your answers. on!

Got a5bombs in my LP, into a VH4. They rule and are very versatile, but this also depends on what tone and style you are going for... generally you cannot go wrong with nailbombs!

I use mostly a Nailbomb alnico set in my guitars.

I was using BKP Holy Divers and Black Dogs into the VH4. Sounded awesome (and still do with my Einstein). I have a Nailbomb laying around but never had a chance to try it out. But I've heard great things.

By some chance is that nailbomb 50mm spacing, open/black with nickel poles and if so....is it for sale :D ? Got the 4 from ya so I mide as well stay with a trusted source.

Love, love, LOVE the BlackDogs and RiffRaffs with my Diezels.

And the Emeralds

Big fan of BKP's. I have nailbombs, painkillers and aftermaths in a variety of guitars. All sound great through the D Moll.

Man, I got the Crawlers and more Nailbombs on my GAS list... RiffRaffs are on there too, maybe in an SG. Or would that be too screechy, what do you think uncle Mo?
Need at least another 3 guitars! :P

I have a set of black/black Aftermaths if anyone wants them.

Hard to say - mahogany body and neck? Ebony or rosewood fingerboard? I think it all depends what you're looking for - the RRs are incredibly well balanced sounding pups in almost all applications.

I have an alnico 5 set of Nailbombs in my PRS Tremonti and play them through a Hagen and they are awesome! A great, very versatile Pickup with an Amp that has the same features....so there are no limits! :)

So what is it (I know the difference between the two types) that you hear from an Alnico to a Ceramic?

I have an Alncio Nailbomb in my Tokai LP. I REALLY like that pickup. I run it into my VH4 and I really dig it… the output isn't over the top but it's hot enough for anything including metal. It is also quite transparent for a higher output pickup and overall well-balanced to my ears. Great combination with the amp, IMHO.

My band's new EP was recorded with that setup (sorry, no idea how to embed soundcloud stuff here):

Har! Love that Rhythmtone... I have one Problem: my Combination of Guitars and VH4 with the RL-Cabs is a bit slow/too thick.
I´m thinking about testing the A5 NB. I also think about Ceramic-NB, but I tested the Ceramic ColdSewat and it wa stoo "icy"!

I want to retain my warmth bit will have more direct "Attack". My Guitars are slow, so I can´t get them faster by a pickup, but perhaps it´s not a good idea to put in a fat sounding PU?

Somebody´s got a recommendation? What´s about the Painkiller?

Thanks mate!

It definitely matters what type of guitars do you have, also tuning, strings, etc... the cab also definitely plays a role.

On pickups: I am not sure whether I have ever perceived different pickups as feeling significantly "faster" or "slower"... but yeah maybe some pickups showcase the pick attack more, which is probably one aspect of "fastness", and also some are tighter, which you may also perceive to be "faster". With the few ones I've played around with, I've found that ceramics did seem to be a bit tighter, but I was not able to compare different BKPs yet. But let me say that I am definitely one to prefer a "fast" guitar tone/feel, but I've never had issues with alnico pickups.

As can be read in my signature:
2x LPs with Rebel Yell -set
1x RG7 with Alnico Black Hawk -set
1x RG8 with Black Dog -set

LPs with Rebel Yell -sets sounding the best out of the above.

I had a LP with Nailbomb set, but sold that. Somehow it was not working for me well enough.

Interesting! Did you put RYs in that same LP? What do you think are the differences between NBs and RYs? Interested in giving those a shot too (in another guitar).

Rebel Yells in a mahogany Suhr Modern. Thing rips on my Einstein, very LP'ish. One of my favorite sets. I'd try'em if you haven't. The spilt/tap well too.

Unfortunately cannot give you such A/B comparison as I did not put the RYs to exactly same LP. But I had another LP with RYs installed at the same time so had the possibility to compare almost identical guitars' tone (both Gibson, same woods, etc.). The RYs are definitely going to stay on both of my LPs.

I know tone is always rather personal thing and there can be great differences on the perception between listeners. But in my opinion the RYs are more "harmonically rich" and thus sound more thick. I do not mean that they sound bigger and tighter, but the sound is more "spread" to fuller frequency range thus sounding very musical. I don't know does that description make any sense. Listen to the clip called 'Heavy' on BKP site and I think you might have a bit idea what I mean for the "more spread" sound. They do work extremely well with higher gain as well - Definitely not as tight as e.g. Aftermath, but way more musical. There is also a very nice deep bass, a bit like aftershock of "subwave", when using lower tunings (I tune these to drop C) and playing big palm mute chords. There is also enough high end to make the mahogany LP sing, but not too much in order to loose the sustain and sound harsh. I also use a lot of volume pot tweaking during different song parts and the RYs (esp. neck) seem to follow that brilliantly. The neck pickup is one of the best for clean and lead work that I have used.

I hope none gets my comments misunderstood. Nailbombs are great pickups, but for me RYs worked better.

Thanks i.ak for the detailed description! Definitely makes me even more curious to try them out...
Cheers
Jan

I have a set of nailbomb's Alnico V incoming. Once I get them into my Paul I will post a clip and report  !
