Nice! I'm very interested in hearing this pickup again. Jeff played his PRS with Afwayus in it for me once and they ripped.

Well Jason, I got the Blissterbuckers today and installed them into a Warmoth guitar built to be like the higher end EB Petrucci models (with the piezo, and the custom 3-way switch for coil tapping in the middle position). Alder body, Quilt maple top, birdseye maple neck, with rosewood fingerboard.

Put the Blissterbuckers in there and holy shit man! WOW. Those pickups are friggin amazing. I can't wait until I can put my other strat together to put the Torques in. The Blisters are the RIGHT pickup for that guitar for sure. So damn good sounding. The bridge is very tight, and very full throughout the whole EQ spectrum. The Afwayus have more of a modern feel, and are a bit more aggressive and grindy. The Blisters have this old school HOT pickup vibe in the bridge. Its a hot pickup, but not overbearing at all. Very clear, very crunchy. In the neck...oh my...it's like butta man. So warm, so juicy. Comparing it to the Air Norton in the neck...well there's no comparison. I think if Petrucci would play my guitar, he'd so quit endorsing Dimarzio for sure!

Wade, the Blisters are amazing man. You've outdone yourself on that one. I see a large demand in your future for that pickup alone!

Damn you guys :gethim:

I am thinking about dropping some MCPs into my PRS Standard 22, but I can't make up my mind between the Blisters and the Afwayus. It has an SD JB/Jazz combo in there now. I don't hate the combo, but there is room for improvement for sure. I want something hotter than vintage, but not all the way to face melt. I was leaning toward Afwayus, but based on Eric's post above, I am thinking the Blisters might be a better fit......

Do these PUPs split well? Are they still good and strong when split? The one thing I really do like about the JB/Jazz set is how they sound split - they stay pretty strong, unlike the SD '59 set I have in another guitar

Decisions decisions

Well...anytime you split, you're gonna lose a "little output" compared to full on bridge in position 1 or full on neck in position 3. I have the Afwayus in my Heritage LP, and they kill for that guitar. If you have a PRS Standard 22, and you are going to do the 5-way "PRS style" switch, both Afwayus and Blisterbuckers will split well. But, I think the better pickup for that guitar would be the Blisters. You're gonna get a tone similar to what I'm getting in my Warmoth, which is just unreal man.

The question is...what type of music do you play? Based on the JB / Jazz setup, I think the Blisters would be the better all around amazing pickup. I LOVE my Afwayus though. They're just different. They're awesome for hard rock and such because they just have a grind to them in the upper mids that just sounds incredible. Not to say that the Blisters don't grind though ;). They do, just different. Both Afwayus and Blisters are great choices. I LOVE both of them :).

Thanks Eric. I actually had my PRS modded with the McCarty electronics, so it has the 3-way push/pull instead of the rotary.

I play a lot of different styles depending on my mood. I have a guitar with SD '59s and another with vintage-style P90s, so when I want to play cleaner, old school stuff, I go there. I am thinking about buying or building an SG and putting some hot MCPs in it (other post:-), so that guitar would be my face-melter, so with the PRS I wanted to stay in the middle, hot and modern, but not over the top - to use it for the not-so-old-school, but not quite Dimebag type material.

So for your PRS, I'd get the Blissters for sure. For you SG, I'd get either the Solutions or the Afwayus.

I don't remember what magnet Wade said was in the Blisster. Just hearing the tone of this pickup man...I'd say it'd work AWESOME in a LP :).

Did you get the Bliss or the Blissters? I thought he made two different kinds. I got the Blisterbuckers.

Eric

There are two.....the bliss and the blisster. Eric, did you check the neck pickup for DC resistance? I was thinking maybe the blisster with a bliss neck.........??

The bliss are vintage output where the blisster is higher ouput.
