I am a new Diezel VH4 owner and man I am in love with this thing. I will never get rid of it! Honestly I am having trouble imagining that the Hebert could compete! Is it as good as the VH4?

Yes it is :D, even some people (like myself), think it's even better than the VH4 (off course, better means "different and feets me better"... )

Both are simply AMAZING !!! Pieces of art both !.

The Herbert is not necessarily better. They are just different. To me, the VH4 has a tone that identifies itself as a Diezel and in my opinion they will be sought after for years to come. The Herbie is a great amp in its on right, but I don't find a signature tone in it. There's just sa lot of it and it is bad ass. What I find in Diezel though is build quality, and functionality without compromising tone and durability. And of course, customer service is second to none. You would be hard pressed to get hold of the man who's name is on his amps any faster than Peter Diezel.

That's just me though. They are both great amps and a step above most. You won't go wrong with either.

Some would say the Herbert is "better". But that really depends on your style and personal taste. Both are great amps. You need to play both and decide for yourself.

I feel the same way about my Herbert! I'll never get rid of this amp!! After years of searching, I have found my sound!! Thats what I love about Diezel, when people ask what my amp sounds like a Marshall or Boogie? I tell them "It sounds like a Diezel" & it sounds like me now!!!!! Congrats on the VH4. Its an AWESOME feeling to find tonal happiness!!!!

I feel Herbert's Ch. 2 + mode is the easiest amplifier to play on the planet.
It flow's like no other. Ch. 1 can get more compressed cleans than the VH4 and Channel 3
is BRUTAL !!!! The Herbert is the Diezel sound, but IMHO a more forgiving amp.

The VH4 channel 3 is tight yet heavy as a sledgehammer. How is the Hebert different? Is it a looser sound like a Marshall?

Slightly looser/less compressed than the VH4. I like to say it breathes more. Still very tight and articulate even with a ton of gain and bass dialed in. The Herbert channel 3 is geared more towards the modern/heavy styles, but channel 1/2 cover almost any other tones you can think of.

The VH4, Herb and Einie all respond to the player differently... VH4 reacts more like a pumped Marshall, Herb as a Recto but FAR better, and the Einie kinda Marshally too but not as tight as the VH4 (I've only played EL34 VH4s... it's been a while...).

Out of the 3 I got on least well with the VH4 but that was just me!

As someone who is more a rock, blues, jazz player rather than a metal player,
I found the Herbert to be really easy to dial in to my tastes. I actually got
the VH4S later expecting a stereo Herbert, and it was a shock finding how different they feel.
The VH4S took more work (for me) to find the sweet spot.
This may sound weird but ch1 on the VH4S with a stereo chorus works great for jazz,
kind of like a Roland JC120 on steroids. Both great amps though.

Honestly, a studio with a Herbert, VH4, Einstein and Schmidt would not need another amp. :D
