moving some gear to a buds house tonight to start up my new and improved second project. we have kicked around the idea of doing a blues thing. I am thinking more along the lines of gary moore, things that have some great pop and get peoples toes tapping. SRV, ZZ Top, but Really the blues is not my thing from a listening point. outside of the ones I have mentioned here, and the obligitory john mayhall cd, I dont think I have any more than maybe the zepplin stuff.
what to play? give me some choices here guys, I am at a loss.

Freddy King, Albert King, BB King, Robert Cray, Hubert Sumlin

Any of those guys and more will get you firmly into the blues vein.

there used to be an mp3 site somewhere that had a bunch of his tunes. he's actually one fo my fav blues players, sometimes he really gets outside and goes for it. and if you like that kinda thing of course check out robben ford and scott hendersons blues stuff. and i forgot to mention eric gales..

Never heard of Chris Cain b4 but Eric Gales is one of my Faves and Phillip Sayce impressed the hell out of me when I saw him open up for Gilbert at NAMM 07. The first time that I listened to him I thought great, another SRV clone but on steroids, next... When I had a chance to see him live, it was a very different opinion, he was awesome, I actually liked him better than Gilbert that night and his band was Ridiculously tight. Got to speak to him afterwards and he was a very nice guy, down to earth ...

Dont forget guys like Buddy Guy, Robin Trower, Frank Marino, Jimi friggin Hendrix...

thanks guys for the suggestions, any specific songs to check out?
I know this is a bit embarrasing, but I have one trower cd, its buried next to the bb king one. the only blues cd in rotation for me is "still got the blues",
hate to admit it, but for this I am at a total loss.
you want vh, rush, stp, led zep, zz, stp, cheap trick, collective soul, any hard rock since 74 I am your man,
Blues,?
well, personally I think Clapton killed off randi, hendrix, tommy bolin, jfk, ghandi, john wayne..........you get the idea

gary moore

and SRV

thats all you'll ever need for blues

I'll suggest Chris Duarte - he's one of my favorite blues guys, especially his rythm playing.

we got together tonight for the first time, here is what we came up with for our next rehearsal
cross roads
come together
midnight rider
still got the blues
sister luck
sharp dressed man
gimme three steps
the boys are back in town
rocky mountain way
funk 49
walk away

I't thinking of suggesting after those are down
oh pretty women, gary moore
stone blue, foghat
sweet home chicago
caledona
hard to handle
pride and joy
crossfire

waddya all think?

I saw phillip sayce last night at molly malone's in hollywood, he is a fellow canadian and extremely badass, was also only playing to like 15 people...

Dude freaking owns though. He's also Melissa Etheridge's lead guitarist.

no worries mate ;)
I was thinking about walking by myself from the still got the blues cd as well.

Yeah we saw him open up for Paul Gilbert a few years back. I was really impressed with his show. But I downloaded his album and while the guitar playing and tone is excellent, the songs leave me flat. His lyrics suck balls (not that it matters really).

Bloodline & Bonamassa :D
wow, great tune from a guitarist standpoint.
thanks for the heads up

add some Cream to the list

Outside Woman Blues is a good one to have in your back pocket and its easy to learn.

Cream!

Been playing recently in a blues band mostly doing Cream covers, and it is a lot of fun

+1 on Outside Woman Blues, also consider Politician and Cream's version of Born Under a Bad Sign. Some really groovy tracks these..

I think Fleetwood Mac have some great songs too that not many people play.

You know, I like Gary Moore a lot. I listened to him long before he was releasing his Blues Albums. Something Robert Cray said really opened my eyes. He didn't trash Moore but he said Gary really wasn't coming across like an authentic blues artist. He was coming across like a metal/hard rock player trying to play Blues. And i kinda agreed with him. Listen to Moore's tone on the Blues stuff. It's not a Blues tone, you could take the lead tone Moore has on Still Got The Blues and play metal leads with it.

Gary Moore's stuff to me is still rock, not blues. Or it's a version of Blues that hard rockers can associate with. All just IMHO.
