Bogner 101b vs. Suhr CAE OD 100se +

Im selling my Uber on the bay currently because Im wanting an amp with a little more versatility and dont need quite the "Uber" gain. Ive decided on an XTC or OD 100SE +. I havent had a chance to play either amp Im currently looking for. Ive just done research and Youtube'd the amps. Has anyone tried both amps and what were your thoughts? Did you have a favorite between the two and why?

Boy, both great amps, but I think it depends on what you want. Me personally I think the SE+ has a better clean and is much heavier, in a Modern type way. I think a better comparison would be with the PT 100 or Standard OD. Again I think the Suhrs cleans are better. I think the PT has more articulation in higher gain settings too. I feel the Standard OD and XTC are voiced similar, but different enough where of you like the Bogner vibe you won't be as happy with the OD. Just depends on you. I personally would get the PT 100, but I wouldn't hate having the XTC. Great amps!
 
I don't know, IMO XTC cleans & blue channel are excellent, lots of wood in cleans & very unique & transparent dirties. You are talking about 2 amps that are voiced very different.
What music do you play?
 
I have owned both of these, sold the CAE to get my last Ecstasy. The Ecstasy wins for me, hands down. The OD 100se is definitely more "metal". Not as sweet or spongy as the Ecstasy, more mordern. A bit more articulate, but definitely too hi-fi for me. Better cleans on the OD 100, but you can dial in great cleans on the Ecstasy if you spend some time with it. I haven't sampled the other CAE OD 100's and I hear the Pete Thorn version is killer (I would actually like to check it out someday).

Really, it comes down to what you want to play. Hard rock, etc, the Ecstasy gets it. Metal (particularly if you are going for a Metallica vibe), the OD100SE would be a better bet.

BTW, if you're looking for a good amp for rock/hard rock and can't afford the Ecstasy, check out the Zinky Velvet 50w head; those are killer and for me the closest runner-up to the Ecstasy that I have found. 6L6 tubes, but when you get playing, you hardly would notice the difference between them and EL34's. Having said that, I am getting another Ecstasy, ASAP.
 
I revived this topic, how do people compare both these amps or the PT-100 even with the 101B? Which one will complement the best a Diezel Einstein. I have my mind set on getting another amp and these are some of the candidates....

Had several Ubers.
Had a 101B and the 20thA.





I still have the 20thA w/ EL34's and it is to me the top of the heap when it comes to versatility and GOBS of awesome, beautiful, rich, organic tone... A bloody masterpiece.

But I do have alternatives for uber-nu-gain style tones. The 20thA stops just at the point where it goes to nuclear...just FYI.

Just wanted to tell you guys that I bought the XTC after much deliberation, I don't have the amp right now... I am really eager and happy though!

Cool. I know you've been searching for some time. What model did you get?
 
I think the XTC wins hands down between the two, the clean is great on the CAE, but no breakup at all, so if you like a good clean with the ability to break up when hit hard the XTC wins there as well.

I think it has been said a lot lately but the XTC is probably still the best all in one cover as many tones well amp out there.
