After my last video checking out the new Snorkler 50 people asked if I could compare it to the JBE mode on my Friedman-modded Marshall. Ask and ye shall receive! Interested in your thoughts and opinions. Enjoy.
JBE is the Jerry Cantrell mode on the Double JSo it's a Friedman JBE vs Bogner Snorkler. Not the Double J correct?
Yeah, the Bogner is brighter with more presence. I probably could EQ the Friedman to sound more similar but that wasn't really the goal.Would be tough to choose. Not sure how I feel about the "nasty" thing the Bogner has going on but I think it sounds better overall yet still very similar. Bump up the highs on the JJ.
My biggest takeaway is that a Bogner is brighter than something else
I do like the rawness of the snorkeler, but I also dig the modded Marshall chewy sound so much.JBE is the Jerry Cantrell mode on the Double J

Never had a Shiva but always wanted to check out a 20th. The low end isn't quite as wooly in the room as it is on the recording. I could have also lowered the depth. I did that in my original demo video I released last week. Most of that was recorded with the Depth at zero.In the OP's clip the Snorkler reminds me alot of the 20th Shiva. It has that same wooly lowend and aggressive nature which can be cool for certain things. Though there is something about the attack of the lowend I dont care for, it has that out of control fuzzy thing. It's always give and take with this stuff and preferences. I had a JJ100 which I liked but it was pretty smooth and dark , didnt have alot of lowend and aggression.
Yeah it’s hard to say how similar they are but from your clip that’s what I hear. 20th Shiva is also very mid heavy and aggressive sounding. The lowend has that out of control fuzzy thing. Snorkler definitely has this "wild" or "about to explode" thing going on with it.
Nah pretty different. I used to own a Helios 100. The Snorkler has more gain and sounds more modern. It has an upper midrange notch with more treble content than the Helios. Helios has a bigger low end and more 70/80s thing going on. Helios is also cathode follower while Snorkler is plate driven. How, and how much, does the Snorkler differ from the Helios? They seem pretty similar, tone-wise.
