there are many possible mods
but what's your point on modding it?
to add alittle more "grind". they are a tad on the "bassy" side. wish the presence knob did more...
that would be quite simple
there are few tricks very used by bogner himself in his other amps
basic tricks:
1) reducing serial caps values to remove excessive bass through the preamp stages
the uber has 2.2n before the gain pot, 24n for the second stage coupling
1n for the first and 2.2n for the second will be enough make it sound more refined and mid focused without losing punch
that's the "secret" of most expensive high gain amps
2) upper mid boosted first stages
the uberschall already has a very 'british' second stage, but the first stage is voiced just like a Diezel Herbert
you can reduce the 4.7u 1st cathode cap to 1u, like a SLO, or .68u like a Marshall and most other Bogner models
this will reduce the flubby bass and add more crunch/gain/grain on the upper mids
3) "fix" the tonestack section
I'm not so sure, but acording to schematics, the uberschall has two bass control capacitors in parallel
just take one of them out to remove the extra bass
4) "fix" the negative feedback circuit on the power amp section
I'm not sure if the schematics are 100% correct, but it shows a 100k//100p fixed depth instead of a negative feedback resistor
I'd take the cap out and replace the 100k resistor for a low value, probably 39k like a SLO, or 47k, like a plexi
having a negative feedback resistor affects a lot the power amp response
low values sound louder, tighter, less organic, high values sound smoother, less defined
apparently, Reinhold designed the Uber power section to be bass heavy, but dry sounding, like a Recto or something (of course the amp does not sound dry, as the preamp is anything but dry)
not really a necessary mod, just something I'd suggest to make it more organic like the other Bogners
you'll spend around... huh... US$1.00?
